We address the specific needs of individual neighborhoods by connecting the essential elements of health and wellbeing through our Healthy Neighborhoods Approach. EBALDC is known for de

veloping and managing diverse, mixed-income complexes and communities, while providing vital social and financial services, to help give long-time, low-income residents the ability to stay in their neighborhoods. We recognize and build upon the assets unique to each community to inform and establish thoughtful partnerships that will address the social factors impacting a neighborhood’s health and wellbeing. ✨Public Art Program Project Highlight✨

This week’s Public Art for Private Development highlight features a mural series at The Phoenix, developed by East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), located at 811 Pine Street in West Oakland. The works include “Pullman Porters: Carrying a Nation” by Timothy Bluitt, “Rise of the Phoenix” by Zoë Boston, and their collaborative piece “Phoenix Feather”. Together, these murals honor the legacy of the Pullman Porters and their role in labor organizing, community building, and the movement for civil rights. The phoenix imagery reflects themes of resilience and renewal that continue to shape West Oakland’s spirit.

Members of EBALDC’s Resident Leadership Council showed up ready to learn, lead, and connect!

During this Canvassing 101 training, facilitated by Courtney Cooperman from Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH), they practiced the skills that turn conversations into community power—listening deeply, sharing information clearly, and meeting neighbors where they are.

RLC connected with canvassing as a way to build trust, grow leadership, and remind people that their voices matter.

We love seeing EBALDC resident leaders for stepping forward and continuing to make our communities stronger, one conversation at a time. Thank you for bringing your own voice and experience!

📩 Members of EBALDC’s Resident Leadership Council, celebrating 15 years this year(!), came together for a voter registration training designed to help neighbors take part in the democratic process with confidence.

The training focused on practical tools, clear guidance, and community-centered outreach strategies that leaders can use to support eligible voters where they live.

During the training, participants reviewed voter registration requirements, learned how to answer common questions, and discussed the importance of trusted messengers—people who understand their communities and can encourage civic engagement through everyday conversations.
