Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and living cultures of Indigenous communities. We celebrate the generations who came before us, uplift the voices and contributions of Indigenous peoples today, and recognize their ongoing work to protect their lands, traditions, and futures.

Indigenous history is not just the past. It is alive, present, and continuing. ❤️

Oakland, you gave La Catrina a welcome we’ll never forget. 💀❤️🌳

From the moment she arrived in Fruitvale, our community showed up with so much love, pride, and alegría to celebrate this historic moment with us. 🤩

To every artist, performer, partner, sponsor, volunteer, community member, and neighbor who helped bring this vision to life: GRACIAS. This moment belongs to all of us. 🫶🏽

La Catrina’s arrival is only the beginning. Throughout her time in Oakland, we’ll continue celebrating our raíces, honoring our traditions, bringing generations together, and strengthening the connection between Oakland and Mexico. 🇲🇽🌳

And if you’d like to help us carry this momentum forward, consider supporting the La Catrina Resistance Fund. Your gift helps The Unity Council continue investing in our community, our culture, and our future.

La Catrina de Oakland is here, and Fruitvale is ready to celebrate! 🌼💀❤️

In preparation for La Catrina’s Welcoming Ceremony and our 31st Annual Oakland Día de los Mu***os Festival, our community has been hard at work beautifying Fruitvale and getting our neighborhood ready to shine.

A special ¡gracias! to Maria Sanchez for leading these efforts, along with our Business Assistance Center and Community Engagement teams, TUC staff, volunteers, and students from Oakland schools who have all pitched in to help. 🌼

Join us tomorrow as we come together to officially celebrate and welcome La Catrina to the heart of Fruitvale!
