Yad Chessed Fund

Yad Chessed Fund www.yadchessed.org Did you know that there are up to 20,000 Jewish families in Greater Boston living in economic distress?

Yad Chessed is a social services agency that assists Jewish individuals and families throughout Massachusetts who struggle financial hardship and food insecurity. Did you know that these families come from all across the Jewish community, from secular to Orthodox, from young to old, from highly educated to no education at all? Yad Chessed provides compassionate financial support to these families.

We are a small, professional staff and we prioritize our clients' dignity at all times. We use financial support to buy security for the families we work with, which in turn allows them to buy back into an important sense of self worth and belief. PROGRAMS
Emergency Financial Assistance: Yad Chessed provides emergency financial assistance for basic needs. Every month, YC distributes over $17,000 worth of food cards to over 130 families in need. We believe in the dignity of choice and take pride in providing our clients with grocery store gift cards, so that they may have the dignifying experience of shopping for themselves

Holiday Food Assistance: On Purim, Rosh Hashannah and Pesach Yad Chessed sends grocery store cards to our clients so that they might enjoy the holiday. Purim is our 'main event'--we work with over 80 synagogues and communities, collect AND give away over $150,000 on Purim day itself.

A beautiful act of collective kindness. 💛 Today, Yad Chessed volunteers delivered hundreds of holiday meals across Greater Boston in honor of Shavuot. Recipients also received lovely succulent plants and cards handmade at Mitzvah Morning by JCC Greater Boston volunteers — adding a touch of spring beauty to the special meals. We are so grateful to our volunteers, donors, and our community partners - Beth El Temple Center, Temple Reyim, Temple Israel of Sharon, Hebrew College, Temple Beth Sholom - The Place To Be and the amazing team at Dushez Kosher Catering - who helped make these meaningful deliveries possible. Wishing everyone a joyful Shavuot and a peaceful Shabbat!

As we approach Shavuot, which begins on May 21, we’re reminded of the strength of community and our shared responsibility to care for one another. At Yad Chessed, that spirit guides our work not only on Shavuot, but every day of the year. We help Jewish individuals and families facing financial hardship afford essentials like food, rent, and utilities—so they can move through difficult times with dignity. When you give to Yad Chessed you help ensure those we serve can celebrate and feel part of our Jewish community. https://givebutter.com/yadchessed

What a joyful Mitzvah Morning on Sunday at JCC Greater Boston! We loved spending the morning with volunteers creating succulent arrangements and cards to brighten Shavuot meals for families in need on May 21. These beautiful plants will bring light, beauty, and connection to Shavuot and Shabbat tables, and we’re so grateful. Special thanks to our wonderful partners at the JCC, Orit and Shani, and our friend Stéphanie for hosting and coordinating such a thoughtful event.

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we are so grateful for our volunteers! Whether you help with Rosh Hashanah, Purim and Passover client mailings, deliver meals at Hanukkah and Shavuot, or serve on our Board, Yad Chessed simply could not be here as a vital safety net for our Jewish community without your time, compassion, and insight. Thank you for being there—for us, and for those who need a helping hand.💙

On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews who were murdered and honor the courage and resilience of those who survived. Their legacy reminds us of our responsibility to care for one another. At Yad Chessed, we support local Holocaust survivors facing financial hardship—easing burdens and helping them stay connected to Jewish life and community.

At Yad Chessed, we help individuals and families buy the food and essentials they need to celebrate Passover with dignity. At the same time, we remain a year-round resource for those in our Jewish community who are facing ongoing financial challenges. When you donate, you help put Passover meals on the table—and you also ensure that support continues well beyond the holiday, providing critical assistance and connection when it’s needed most. https://givebutter.com/yadchessed

Thank you! Our community—including nearly 90 synagogues, minyanim, and organizations—came together in a truly inspiring way to fulfill the Purim mitzvah of Matanot LaEvyonim—gifts to those in need—and we are deeply grateful. Because of you, Yad Chessed was able to provide kosher market vouchers to more than 1,100 families facing financial hardship and food insecurity, helping them fill their pantries and feel the care and strength of our Jewish community. Thank you, and Shabbat Shalom.
