Such sad news from Common Cathedral this week, our Roger passed away on Monday at noon. He was such an important part of our experience at CC. Our presence seemed to make a difference to him, perhaps about as much as to any one there. His smile and eyes were so receptive. Thank goodness Rev. Lesa, whom he adored, was in the ICU at the hospital and was holding his hand when he passed. We are all very upset, we deeply respect his humanity and will miss him dearly.

This week at Common Cathedral and Common Arts it was Marie’s 80th birthday. She is an artist and young spirit who is a fixture in the art program. She is wearing her hand painted kimono style wrap she made. Miss Jeanie catered sandwiches galore — veggie, ham/cheese, tuna…And brought flowers and fabrics! Lots of art was happening in Marie’s honor.
It was nice to see the celebrations unfold!

This week at The WishDish Project, Miss Jeanie made Ghanian “Stew!” The cabbage was generously provided from Margie P***e of Leathy’s Garden. It was a big hit with the guests, particularly with our friend, Mr. Johnny, who used to be a designer!

Mr. Larry's Skillet Cornbread

“No matter what, so remains the Cornbread Champion.” Every time I look at Larry’s WISHDISH I want to hop up and make it so I can have it for supper (what I now call dinner having lived up north a good long spell of time). Southerners eat this as a full course meal—no need for another protein unless you desire it, for example, as a side with some good creole pork chops. Just a generous serving of mustard greens on top of a bed of Louisiana prepared white rice (served in a medium sized bowl) with a fork and an ample sized piece of Skillet Cornbread balanced on the rim of your bowl and you’ll be so satisfied! Right before finishing your first bowl full, you might even find yourself tossing in varied sized cornbread “croutons” to savor those last bites. Take a minute or two to rest, then you are certain to head to the stove for your second helping. — Miss Jeanie

Last week we honored Diamond with her homemade WISHDISH which was Lasagna with Mama’s Gravy. In this video, Pastor Mary talks about how special it was to share this meal with the community at Common Cathedral and how awesome it was to learn more about Diamond’s favorite food memory.
