A beautiful gathering of friends of AIWA New England in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The voices of Zulal Trio brought to life our rich traditional Armenian songs and melodies, while Ani Arakelian delivered a moving recital of Anahit. Surrounded by the vibrant paintings of visual artist Ani Babaian, music, poetry, and art came together for a meaningful celebration of culture and community.

At our International Women’s Day celebration, we are excited to feature the work of Ani Babaian, an accomplished Armenian artist and art conservator whose paintings explore heritage, memory, and the strength of women across generations. Select works will be available for purchase at the event.

Ani Babaian is an independent artist and art conservator whose work blends Armenian and Persian influences through a contemporary visual language. Raised in New Julfa, Isfahan, Iran, she holds an MFA from Alzahra University in Tehran. Her work has been exhibited in Iran, Armenia, and the United States, and she has led conservation projects for historic Armenian churches. She currently serves as Director of the Mardigian Library at NAASR.

Join us as we celebrate women, culture, and creativity through Ani Babaian’s powerful work.

We are honored to welcome Zulal Trio to our International Women’s Day celebration. Composed of Teni Apelian, Anaïs Alexandra Tekerian, and Yeraz Markarian, Zulal is an a ca****la trio of Armenian American women whose voices bring ancestral village folk songs to life in powerful and contemporary ways.

Meaning “clear water,” Zulal honors the joys, struggles, and resilience of Armenian village life, from echoes of loss to the rhythms of dance and celebration. Their music bridges ancient traditions with new possibilities and has been performed at renowned venues including the Getty Museum, the MET, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Berklee College of Music, and the Kennedy Center.

Join us as we celebrate women, culture, and storytelling through the unforgettable sound of Zulal.
