Having trouble getting comfortable or consistent with your squat?

One simple place to start: try widening your stance.

Then, use a box to squat down to. This can give you a clear target, help you control your depth, and build confidence in the movement.

You don’t always need to overcomplicate a squat. Sometimes a small adjustment and a little support is all you need to start moving better and getting stronger.

Two questions I get all the time,

ā€œHow often should I strength train?ā€
ā€œShould I be sore after every workout?ā€

My answer: find the amount of training you can consistently sustain.

For some people, that’s 1 day a week. For others, 2 or 3. With 2 being that sweet spot.

The goal isn’t to train as much as possible. It’s to train enough that you can keep showing up without burning yourself out.

And when it comes to intensity, try leaving about 2 reps in reserve on most sets. You can still build strength and muscle without constantly pushing yourself to the limit.

Training should challenge you. Not leave you so beat up that you can’t train again.

Consistency > exhaustion.

If your knee tends to cave in or drift out during a reverse lunge or split squat, you don’t always need 5 different corrective exercises before you can start getting stronger.

Try simplifying the movement:

•Knee caves in? Hold onto the rack for support and hold the weight on the outside of the working leg.

•Knee drifts out? Hold the weight on the inside of the working leg.

The goal isn’t to find a perfect position before you ever load the movement.

It’s to create enough stability and control to practice the movement, build strength, and gradually improve.

Sometimes the best ā€œcorrective exerciseā€ is simply making the movement a little more accessible and getting stronger at it.

Meet yourself where you are. Then build from there.

Nutrition doesn’t have to start with tracking every calorie, macro, and gram.

At BT, we like to start simple and build from there.

Here’s a framework we’ve used with our community:

1ļøāƒ£ Journal your food
Don’t track numbers yet. Just write down what you’re eating and look for patterns. What does a typical day actually look like? Is anything missing?

2ļøāƒ£ Use a simple portion guide
Compare your meals to a basic framework and see where you may need more, or less.

3ļøāƒ£ Track with purpose
If you’re ready for more structure, start with just a couple of targets like protein and fiber.

4ļøāƒ£ Full nutrition tracking
If your goals call for more precision, then tracking calories and macros can become a useful tool.

You don’t have to go from ā€œI’m not paying attentionā€ to ā€œI’m tracking everything.ā€

There’s a whole spectrum in between.

Start with awareness. Build from there.

Higher reps or lower reps? Higher weight or lower weight?

You don’t have to choose.

At BT, we use both to build a well-rounded body and keep training effective and enjoyable.

Lower reps + heavier weight = build strength and confidence with your major movements.

Higher reps + lighter weight = great for accessory work, adding volume, and challenging your muscles in different ways.

The goal isn’t to live in one rep range.

It’s to use the right tools for the right purpose and build a body that’s strong, capable, and ready for life.

Life happens.

You get sick. You get injured. You travel. Your routine gets disrupted.

The goal isn’t to jump right back into 100%.

Find your easiest barrier to entry.

Sick? Give your body time to recover. Rest, hydrate, prioritize nutrient-dense foods, and rebuild your energy before pushing training.

Coming back from an injury? Get the appropriate clearance, then focus on what you can train comfortably. You don’t have to stop everything.

Traveling? Don’t wait for the ā€œperfectā€ Monday. My rule* Don’t let more than 2 days go by without doing something to reconnect with your routine.

The biggest mistake is thinking you need to make up for lost time.

You don’t.

Start where you are. Make the first step easy. Then build from there.

Consistency isn’t never getting off track. It’s knowing how to get back on.

One exercise. Plenty of benefits. šŸ’Ŗ

The 45-degree dumbbell bench press is one of our favorite upper-body movements because it checks a lot of boxes.

āœ… Builds strength through the chest, shoulders, and triceps
āœ… Allows each arm to work independently, improving balance and control
āœ… Encourages a more natural shoulder position for many lifters
āœ… Carries over to everyday pushing movements and other pressing exercises

Remember, the ā€œbestā€ exercise isn’t the one you see trending.

It is the one that helps you move well, build strength, and stay consistent.
