🎉 Congratulations to Dr Jonathan Lashley of the Idaho State Board of Education (United States), winner of the 2026 Open Education Award for Excellence in the Open Individual category as an Open Education Policy and Systems Leader!

Jonathan grew Open Practitioners, Advocates, and Leaders (OPAL) from a 2017 community into statewide infrastructure for access and affordability, with Project Z-Degree generating over $1.65 million in student savings by 2025. His mentorship built a leadership pipeline, with OPAL colleagues moving into larger roles beyond Idaho.

Javiera is a senior Lecturer in Learning and Teaching Enhancement and leads the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PgCAP). She has made sustained and impactful contributions to open education through the creation and advancement of open educational resources (OER) in data and AI literacy, grounded in a deep commitment to equity, access and collaboration.

🎉 Congratulations to Gabriella Paolini, the winner of the 2026 Open Education Individual Award for Excellence as a Pioneer and Advocate of Open Education and Internet Access!

For over 30 years, Gabriella has helped build Italy’s open internet and advance open education. She is a training and E-Learning coordinator at GARR, Italy’s national research and education network, and a member of WikiDonne, where she contributes her expertise to closing the gender gap in cultural heritage and open knowledge.

From creating freely available learning resources to advocating for open knowledge, producing freely available training materials, running programs for the academic community, and connecting open infrastructure with open pedagogy, we’re delighted to celebrate Gabriella and her contributions! 👏

And that's a wrap!! is over in Cambridge, but continues online!

This week, over 3 days, 263 speakers from 28 countries shared their Open Education work and ideas with more than 500 attendees.

We know this conference was only possible because of YOU, our Open Education community.

To our speakers, session hosts, reviewers, way-finder volunteers, co-hosts, sponsors, exhibitors, and everyone who joined us in Cambridge, online, or in Vancouver: thank you for inventing with us.

This year, for the first time, we were joined by the Vancouver Satellite Event, hosted by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) Canada and BCcampus, with generous support from Internet Archive Canada.

We are grateful to our colleagues at MIT Open Learning, OLERAC, and the entire conference team for the 2-year journey that brought this conference together.

We would like to express our thanks to the co-chairs and the programming committee: Sarah Hansen, Shira Segal, Marcela Morales, Igor Lesko, PhD, and Robert J. Awkward, and to the steering committee members Curt Newton, Sue Tashjian, Kisha Tracy, Marilyn Billings, and Christopher Capozzola.

As the last day draws to a close, it is always good to look back and see just how far you have come. It is fitting then that Dr. Joshua Bennett's inspiring and poignant speech on the very first session of led to Dr. TJ Bliss, one of the panelists for the keynote on Day 3, to write and share his own poem about sustainability. At the beginning of the last day of a jam-packed, inspiring and affirming , Prof. Takaya Yamazato announced the location of the 2028 OEGlobal conference as Nagoya, Japan from November 22-24, 2028.

Hosted by Open Education Japan (OEJ) with support from Nagoya University, Hokkaido University, and local partners, the conference will take place at the Nagoya Congress Center, and will include a post-conference workshop in Hiroshima.

Prof. Takaya Yamazato is the Deputy Director at the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Nagoya University and was elected President of OEGlobal Board in September 2026.
