Last week, we celebrated the creativity, culture, and community of older adults at Rooted in Community: A Celebration of Senior Artists!

This inspiring exhibition showcased the artistic talent, storytelling, and cultural expression of older adults from PSS Manhattanville Center, RAICES Corona Older Adult Center, Hamilton Grange Senior Center, and Carver Senior Center.

Through workshops led by El Museo teaching artists, participants created remarkable works as part of the SU-CASA program at Carver and RAICES Older Adult Centers and the Cultural Immigrant Initiative at Hamilton Grange and Manhattanville Older Adult Centers. The celebration culminated in bringing these artists and their beautiful creations together at El Museo!

A special thank you to the New York City Council, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and Council Members—Elsie Encarnación, Tiffany Cabán, Shaun Abreu, and Yusef Salaam—whose support made this event possible:

We also extend our gratitude to the older adult artists, center staff, and teaching artists Cievel Xicohtencatl, Dionis Ortiz, and Julia Justo, whose dedication and talent brought this celebration to life.

Thank you to everyone who helped honor the voices, stories, and creativity of our older adult community!

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

In ‘Jangueando: Recent Acquisitions, 2021–2025,’ a selection of recently acquired works reflects El Museo’s commitment to collecting and amplifying q***r voices. Through portraits, photographs, sculptures, and print, our artists explore identity, kinship, self-expression, and the many ways we gather, create, and care for one another. The section “In the Club” amplifies this idea with works by celebrated artists assume vivid astro focus (avaf), Laura Aguilar, and Luis Carle.

Meaning “hanging out” in Spanglish, Jangueando reminds us that community itself can be a space of joy, resistance, and celebration of q***r artists imagining new ways of being together

Join us this June to experience these powerful works and celebrate the creativity, resilience, and brilliance of q***r Latine communities before the exhibition closes next month.

¡Feliz Mes del Orgullo! 🌈

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Julio Le Parc, a visionary artist whose groundbreaking practice left an indelible mark on modern art around the world.

We were honored to share Le Parc’s art with our audiences in 'The Illusive Eye' (2016), an international survey of Kinetic and Op art. The exhibition highlighted the richness of geometric abstraction across the Americas, and Le Parc’s contributions stood as a powerful example of the creativity, innovation, and experimentation that defined the movement.

We are grateful for the Argentine artist’s enduring contributions to generations of artists, scholars, and viewers. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those touched by his remarkable life and legacy.
