Over the years, the Temple has offered youth-centered initiatives such as the Interfaith Dialogue, Education and Action (IDEA) program, which empowered teens (ages 14–19) in leadership, critical thinking, and community-building around interfaith understanding and social change. The organization also organized youth councils and events like the Gandhi, King, Chavez Season for Nonviolence at the United Nations, drawing hundreds of junior high and high school students to learn about peace and nonviolent leadership in global contexts.

Since 2005, the Temple of Understanding has formally engaged youth through its Summer Internship Program, offering students (typically ages 18–22) a combination of research, field visits to United Nations missions, interfaith site learning, community service, and access to high-level UN meetings as part of their educational development and global leadership experience.
