One of our first initiatives in Jordan is Free Kicks—a leadership and resilience program supporting girls in two vulnerable communities.

In Jerash Refugee Camp, where 85% of parents report depression and many children show signs of emotional abuse or hopelessness, Free Kicks offers a stabilizing space for confidence, mentorship, and healthy peer relationships. In the Northern Jordan Valley, where poverty, violence, and agricultural labor contribute to high dropout rates, the program provides belonging, character development, and emotional support.

By combining athletics, psychosocial care, and leadership training, Free Kicks becomes a protective factor—helping girls navigate adversity and grow into leaders who strengthen their communities.

Be a part of this moment and help change a girl’s future today.

🤍 Right now, donations are matched dollar for dollar up to $10k, doubling your impact for girls in Jordan.

May 1: Labor Day in the Middle East

Today, countries across the region — including Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain — observe Labor Day. A day meant to honor workers and their rights.
But for far too many migrant domestic workers in this region, rights are still out of reach. At Rain Collective, we continue to receive case after case reporting:
🚩 Excessive work hours
🚩 No days off
🚩 Passports and IDs confiscated
🚩 No reporting mechanisms for wage theft
🚩 Mistreatment, violence, and abuse

This isn’t just labor exploitation — these patterns are the hallmarks of labor trafficking and human trafficking. When workers are controlled, isolated, and coerced through threats, document retention, and abuse, it’s trafficking.
Labor rights are anti-trafficking protections.
Ending the abuse of domestic workers is ending trafficking.

This Labor Day, we aspire to see policies reformed all acrross the Middle East and North Africa to:
✔️ Enforce protections for domestic workers
✔️ End passport confiscation practices
✔️ Create safe, accessible reporting systems
✔️ Dismantle exploitative sponsorship (Kafala) systems

Because every worker deserves safety, dignity, and freedom, and every case of trafficking starts where labor rights are denied.

Let it rain justice. 🌧️

Torn from freedom. Trapped behind bars. Noor, a survivor of human trafficking in North Africa, was falsely accused, exploited, and abused while in custody — punished instead of protected.

This week, after months of pain and weeks of negotiations, they are finally FREE and safely reunited with their loved ones abroad. But this story is not unique — too many survivors are criminalized instead of cared for.

It’s time to end this cycle. Survivors need protection, not punishment.

Yesterday at the United Nations Commission for the Status of Women, our founder and director, Dr. Jason Pope, was honored to moderate an impactful session entitled Beyond Beijing 1995: Revolutionizing the Modern Slavery Fight hosted by WEA and GFN.

Key Takeaways:
🔹 Helen Avadiar-Nimbalker explored the Beijing Declaration’s connection to identifying the 27 million trafficking victims still unseen.
🔹 Dr. Havilah Dharamraj shared a spiritual reflection on women and abuse.
🔹 Commissioner Christine MacMillan highlighted why men matter in advancing women’s rights.
🔹 Sarah Scott Webb and Daniel Garnett shared critical case studies from Oceania and the Middle East.
🔹 Jennifer Tunehag cast a bold vision for the next 30 years of faith-driven advocacy.

We are grateful for these powerful insights from our speakers and engaging question-and-answer time as we work toward a future of freedom and justice.

We want to take a quick look back at our repatriation program in 2024. Each number represents a unique survivor of human trafficking we had the opportunity to meet and serve through our 7 Stage Repatriation Program throughout the last year. We are committed to disrupting the cycle of human trafficking all over the Middle East and North Africa. Our efforts are to ensure that each individual we encounter who has survived human trafficking will have the best context to thrive they can have from the moment they are identified as a survivor until they are thriving in a new life.

Christmas Reflection from the Levant!

I have lived as an expat in the Levant region of the Middle East for almost four years. The weather in this region in December gets cold, and sometimes it will even snow throughout the mountainous areas. Most evenings, the temperature drops a little above freezing all over the region. If you go to the city center where I live during the holiday season, you will find Christmas decorations with a large Christmas tree and carols playing on the speakers. If you are lucky, you will find someone roasting chestnuts as well. Although the vast majority of this region is Muslim, there are minority Christians scattered throughout all the major cities and in some villages.

During this busy Christmas season of gift buying and holiday parties, our work of disrupting the trafficking cycle in the Middle East does not slow down or take a break. Last Christmas, I worked alongside two other non-profits to assist with the repatriation of four victims of trafficking to Uganda. This Christmas, my colleague and I just heard the news that a victim we have been advocating for who we supported with getting to a shelter will be arriving home to her family on Christmas Eve! These types of stories fuel our mission and remind us of the hope this season represents.

-Daniel Garnett, Program Director in the Levant

We pray these stories fill your heart with hope this Christmas and Advent season. Happy Advent & Merry Christmas to you and your families, from Rain Collective!
