Earlier this morning, I received a call that I knew was coming. And still, I was not ready. At this moment I am hurting beyond words as we share with you that our brother Danny Mixon is gone.

Danny's homegoing arrangements are being finalized. We will let you, our Jazzmobile family, know them as soon as they are finalized. And, we will have more to share about Danny.

What a night! Yesterday, April 30, we celebrated International Jazz Day 2026 hosted by the amazing with an incredible All-Star Global Concert live from Chicago—the very city where Satchmo himself helped revolutionize this art form 100 years ago.

From the Lyric Opera of Chicago to living rooms around the world, we honored the legacy of Louis Armstrong by proving once again that jazz is the universal language of peace and unity. Huge thanks to , , and all the brilliant artists who kept the spirit of Pops swinging! 🌎✨

🎷 What an unforgettable International Jazz Day
Yesterday’s All‑Star Global Concert in Chicago reminded the world why jazz remains one of humanity’s greatest gifts — a language of freedom, unity, and deep cultural memory.

From the Lyric Opera House stage, legends and rising voices came together in a once‑in‑a‑generation celebration co-directed by Herbie Hancock and Kurt Elling. The lineup featured extraordinary artists including Gregory Porter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Marcus Miller, Terence Blanchard, Robert Glasper, and so many more — each carrying forward the lineage shaped by Louis Armstrong and the innovators who followed him.

This year’s concert also honored Chicago’s historic role in jazz — the city where Armstrong transformed the sound of American music and helped define the art form’s future. The global broadcast reached audiences in more than 190 countries, underscoring jazz’s power to connect communities across borders, cultures, and generations.

🎷 Celebrating Dee Dee Bridgewater for Month

The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation honors Dee Dee Bridgewater, whose 2018 NPRTiny Desk performance beautifully reconnected her to her Memphis roots. From Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog” to Pops Staples’ “Why (Am I Treated So Bad?)”, Bridgewater reminded us how jazz carries history, memory, and community.

Her artistry continues to inspire, uplift, and expand the legacy of this music.
