Two years. Every town. One incredible team. 🇵🇷📚

Our Puerto Rico team drove across the island asking a simple question: where are all the libraries? The answer is the Directorio Nacional de Bibliotecas, the first-ever national registry of Puerto Rico’s libraries.

We couldn’t be prouder of this award-winning project funded by Mellon Foundation. Read more in our latest blog post at the link in the comments 💙

70 books, one big heart 📖💙

Back in July, supporter and author Victoria Lombardi reached out wanting to put books directly into the hands of families served by LWB US. This month, her fully curated collection arrived at Housing Families First, all carefully selected to support caregivers and children experiencing homelessness with beautiful books to enjoy quietly and read-aloud 🧡

Thank you, Victoria, for turning one kind idea into a shelf full of stories so a book is always within reach for these Richmond families📚

We took LIFT to the ballpark! ⚾📚

As the season comes to a close, Libraries Without Borders US was thrilled to participate in a literacy event at Nationals Park yesterday. We handed out 100 early literacy LIFT kits during Reading Rainbow storytime, then hundreds of little Nats fans designed their own bookmarks and colored at our concourse station 🖍️🎨

Thanks to the Washington Nationals and everyone who stopped by with their creativity and love of reading. Another season, another reminder that literacy belongs everywhere. 💙 We can’t wait to do it again next season!

739 million people still lack basic literacy skills. On the 60th UNESCO International Literacy Day, that number isn’t just a statistic - it’s a call to action 💪

At Libraries Without Borders US, we believe literacy begins with access: to books, to technology, to safe spaces where learning can happen. When people can read, they can advocate. When they have information, they can build. When they learn, whole communities prosper.

Literacy for people. For the planet. For prosperity. Today and every day 🌍

A library card is more than a ticket to borrow books — it’s a key tool for equity, digital inclusion, and community empowerment 🌐📖

Beyond traditional branches, Libraries Without Borders US works to bring these vital resources directly to underserved and underresourced communities nationwide 🧺✨

A funder said "no" to our grant request. So we asked a different question: 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦?

The answer led us to a Pre-K orientation in DC's Congress Heights, where 80 young learners and their families took home 320 books, 80 activity kits, and 80 learning buddies. Corporate volunteers had assembled every LIFT kit by hand at Deloitte's annual Impact Day in June 📚

At the orientation, our team asked every family the same question: 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘥? 📖

LWB US works alongside DC Public Library, not in place of it. Families who said "no" left knowing how to get a card and what DCPL offers once they do 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽

This July, LWB US celebrated one year with Dr. Lovesun Parent as our executive director — and what a year it has been! 🎉📚💜

Growing up in Brooklyn, Lovesun found that her local Brooklyn Public Library gave her “safety, possibility, and the freedom to imagine a world beyond what I could see.” 🗽

Today, she’s building that same world for others through her leadership at Libraries Without Borders US and our global Bibliothèques Sans Frontières network 🌍

Swipe to learn more about Lovesun and help us celebrate our amazing leader, who believes every child deserves a library and is turning that belief into reality for communities across the US 𐦂𖨆𐀪𖠋

Happy anniversary, Lovesun!✨ 🧡

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy of reading.

A love of reading starts with a single story.

Reading for pleasure helps children build imagination, confidence, creativity, empathy, communication skills, and a lifelong love of learning. Reading with a child for 10 minutes a day can kick-start a life-changing habit.

That’s why Raising Readers is encouraging everyone to make reading for enjoyment part of children’s daily lives.

The story you share today may become part of their story tomorrow.
