Commemorating Juneteenth—a day that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a powerful reminder that freedom, justice, and opportunity are ideals that must continually be advanced and protected.

Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone. It is a reflection of resilience, perseverance, and the enduring belief that progress is possible even in the face of tremendous adversity. It reminds us that the pursuit of equity requires leadership, courage, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

For more than four decades, the National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) has worked to elevate the voices and leadership of Black county officials while advancing policies and opportunities that strengthen communities across America. Today, we honor the generations whose sacrifices paved the way for our service and recognize the responsibility we carry to continue building a more inclusive and prosperous future.

On this Juneteenth, may we honor the past, celebrate the progress achieved, and recommit ourselves to the work of creating opportunity for generations to come

Access to high-quality internet service is no longer a luxury. It’s a necessity. The proposed Charter-Cox merger presents an opportunity to accelerate California’s investment in broadband infrastructure, improve network resilience, and support future growth. The CPUC should approve the merger as soon as possible. As this process moves forward, The National Organization of Black County Officials will continue advocating for outcomes that serve low-income residents and businesses, while helping California’s communities stay connected.

A powerful gathering of leadership.

During the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., the National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) convened county leaders from across the country for our annual NOBCO Membership Meeting.

The response from attendees was incredible, with many members sharing that this was one of the strongest NOBCO membership meetings to date.

Key highlights included a timely State of Policy update from Anna Buhlinger of , as well as a compelling fireside chat on election integrity featuring Cook County Clerk and Fulton County Commissioner

The meeting also included a tribute honoring the legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson, recognizing his lifelong impact on civic leadership and the continued importance of engaged, principled leadership in our communities.

As we continue building momentum, members were also reminded of the importance of active membership participation and the exciting opportunity ahead at the upcoming 40th Annual NOBCO Economic Development Conference in Maui.

Thank you to all of the county officials, partners, and members who joined us as we continue advancing Black county leadership nationwide.
