FABnyc FABnyc’s mission is to strengthen the cultural vitality of the Lower East Side.

FABnyc was founded in 2001 as the nonprofit leadership organization for the East 4th Street Cultural District, a historic and vibrant arts corridor in Manhattan between Second Avenue and Bowery. We implement this mission through a range of programs and collaborations with local cultural organizations, independent artists, community-based organizations and neighborhood nonprofits. We work as cultur

al producers, facilitators, and organizers with an ongoing interest in how arts and culture can advance community health, inclusiveness, and equity.

FAB began on E 4th Street in 2001 as a coalition of arts and community groups fighting against our own displacement.

That beginning held values that continue to shape our work – a belief in the importance of local community, character, culture, and collective organizing.

The struggle to secure permanent space for arts and culture in a rapidly changing neighborhood is inherently entwined with other fights – preserving affordable housing, sustaining small businesses, advocating for greater equity, and resisting cultural erasure.

FAB evolved from our first success on 4th Street.. to bring artists and arts strategies to collaborate locally on a range of pressing neighborhood concerns.

As every organizer knows, the work doesn’t end – yet the secret ingredient to sustaining ourselves is celebrating wins and milestones when we can!

Throughout our 25th year, we plan to honor and appreciate the people and actions that shaped FAB – the trailblazers who worked without maps, guided only by a strong sense of what the power of creatively working together could make possible.

And on June 17th, we invite you to join us for FAB25! A community party and benefit celebrating 25 years of Fourth Arts Block. We’d love to share a moment of joy with you! 💃

FAB's 25 years in 25 objects, #3 : FAB Café Mug

☕️ Responding to a small storefront vacancy on East 4th Street, FAB opened a café and visitor center — a gathering place with a welcoming vibe. Soup, MUD coffee, artwork, and, on certain days, home baked goods from Ryan were all on offer. It was an amazing experiment and a deep learning venture about the challenges that face small businesses. Over the years, FAB has continued to champion small businesses through collaborations with EVIMA (East Village Merchants Association) and Cooper Square Committee, as well as projects like Hatuey Ramos Fermín's "Messages to Go," in which oral interviews with immigrant small business owners and local organizers provided insightful quotes that, along with drawings, were printed onto colorful reusable shopping bags and distributed by small business owners to their customers.

🌼 Thank you all for coming to 'On the ground where we might find" - our 2026 LES Young Artists of Color Fellows' Exhibit, and congratulations once again to our fellows!

💫 This year's LES Young Artists of Color Fellowship culminated in the exhibition, "On the ground where we might find". In the past 12 weeks, the fellows met in a peer-to-peer sharing group, reflecting on not only their personal practice as early-career artists but also ways to bring in community engagement and cross-sector collaboration.

🎨 Last weekend, the fellows showcased what they've been working on with an exhibition in FAB's Studio space! We got to welcome their friends, family, loved ones, as well as art lovers in our network for an intimate and exciting 3-day exhibit run. Thank you to all who came out!

💐 Thank you, also, to our visiting guest artists throughout the fellowship, Raul Ayala , Destiny Mata .mata and Immanuel Oni . Your sharing was truly valuable to our fellows!

💐 Last but not least, sincere congratulations to our fellows: Benjy Hsu, Coralis Rivera, Daniel Marte, Jewel Champbell, Kendall Greene, Mei Bock, Natalia Boumatar and Nia Blue! You showed up every Monday night with so much zeal for exploration, so much care for your communities and willingness to be inspired by one another. It's a testament to both your artistic talents and your love for others, that your community truly showed out to support your works. I (Ari) have been so fortunate to be a part of this experience with you all!
