The Other Americans by is just a stunning night of theatre. Everything about this production is so exquisitely honest. The writing, the direction (by the brilliant ) and the impeccable cast reveal with love, humor, and incredible specificity just how racism and inter-generational trauma warps us and creates toxicity even amongst people who love one another. Especially so. There is a moment towards the end when we literally see Leguizamo’s character push his grief deep down inside of himself, and there is already obviously a landfill of pain in there.
This is a story many of us have experienced or witnessed. This is a deeply American story. And we are being reminded that we do not have to be this way.
They’ve already been extended through Oct 19. Really it should run and run and run. We need this play.
