Since 1924, I-House has welcomed bright young people from all over the world to live, learn and grow together through a transformative experience that prepares them to join and lead the conversations that will change the world. In addition to safe and comfortable housing within a New York City historic landmark, I-House offers a unique array of programming and opportunities that foster cross-cultu

ral connection and lifelong friendships. The I-House experience doesn't end with residency; community members are welcomed into the global Alumni network for life, joining more than 65K postgraduates from all over the world who have called I-House home. Through this simple but radical idea, we have built a network of globally-minded leaders who go on to live lives guided by the values of Respect for differences, Empathy for others, and the Moral Courage to act for what is right.

I-House alumni in the DMV came together on Saturday, May 9 for a gathering at the Tabard Inn in Washington, D.C. 🍻

Throughout the evening, guests exchanged stories from their time in the House, reflecting on the ways in which the I-House experience impacted their lives far beyond their time at 500 Riverside Drive.

Friends of International House, UK (FIHUK), celebrated its 20th anniversary with a day-long series of events in London on May 9. Following a brunch at EL&N Bromptom, participants enjoyed a special guided tour at the V&A Museum, followed by an Afternoon Tea Salon with alumni performances, and concluding with a Pub Night at the International Student House.

Many thanks to Patricia Hamzahee ’83 and the FIHUK Board for planning and organizing the activities, Erika and Maurits Dolmans ’86 for hosting the Tea Salon, where Ayanna Witter Johnson ‘11, Sabina Rakyecheva ‘04 and Ayman Jarjour ’00 performed, and Tomas Hazleton ‘91 for sponsoring the Pub Night.

Candlelight. Sunday. Supper. 🕯️🍽️

Another academic year at I-House drew to a close with an incredible Candlelight Sunday Supper. President & CEO Sebastian Fries set the tone with welcoming remarks invoking what it means to show moral courage. I-House alum Jesús Armas ’23 followed on with a keynote address reminding everyone that being part of the I-House community is forever. Big shoutouts to:

Last week at the House: Residents, alumni, and trustees welcomed Michael Froman, President of the Council on Foreign Relations, for the inaugural event of the Ambassador Frank G. Wisner Distinguished Speaker Series. The evening’s fireside chat focused on the most pressing challenges shaping U.S. foreign relations today and what lies ahead for the field of foreign policy.

In conversation with I-House alumna Josephine Hebling ’24, Froman drew on his experience as the final U.S. Trade Representative appointed under President Obama and as Vice Chairman of Strategic Growth at Mastercard, offering insights at the intersection of government, global economics, and international leadership.

All smiles at I-House this week as the 2025-26 Obama Scholars took to the stage to share their experiences of building impact across different sectors. The evening's discussion explored how constraints like political dynamics, funding limitations, and institutional barriers can be navigated and transformed into opportunities for growth and scale. The session aimed to create space for moving beyond surface-level success stories and engaging more honestly with what it takes to build and sustain meaningful work.

Last weekend at I-House: Entrepreneurship took center stage at the very first Götz Talks event, featuring the inaugural cohort of the Götz Mäuser ’91 Global Entrepreneurship Fellowship. The event represented the culmination of the fellows’ year-long journey in learning what it takes to launch successful ventures and drive meaningful change wherever they go. We were so thrilled to see it all come together during this special afternoon of pitching, presenting, and networking.

Our tremendous thanks to the man who made it all happen, I-House alum Götz Mäuser ‘91, and to our guest panelists Muna Ikedionwu and Jorge de los Santos ‘01. And of course, very special shoutouts to senior fellowship advisor in residence Joséphine Goube and our awesome fellows: Jayat Gonzalez Palomera, Allison Karabu, Sumit Karn, and Sezim Zhenishbekova. We can’t wait to see what you all do next! 🌎🏠
