Reshet Ramah: Alumni Network

Reshet Ramah: Alumni Network When someone brings up the word “camp”, your mind jumps straight to Ramah. You might be older now, and those camp days seem like so long ago.

Reshet Ramah is the exciting network for thousands of Ramah alumni from across the globe to meet, re-meet, and engage through social, educational, spiritual, and Israel based programming initiatives and to form Ramah-style communities of their own. You have flashbacks of diving into the lake, dancing to classic Israeli songs in the rain, of hiking Masada for the first time with your friends on Sem

inar. You can’t help but feel a smile growing on your face as you remember the feeling in the air before the first Shabbat, the first Israeli friend you ever made, when you were named Yom Sport Captain. Now that your responsibilities have changed—careers, family, paying rent or mortgage—the Jewish engagement that was easier in high school and even college can be more of a challenge. Yet, you know that nothing is better than being with your Ramah friends, doing the things that make you happiest. At Reshet Ramah, we understand the challenges of the modern day Ramahnik. You still want to learn, grow, and experience Judaism and Israel the way you did when you were at camp in a way that works with your busy schedule. Reshet Ramah wants to make that happen. Our mission is to partner with our thousands of Ramah alumni around the world and facilitate meaningful educational, spiritual, and Israel-based opportunities. Whether you’re looking for a kosher cooking class, volunteer opportunities, or even a place to have a Shabbat meal, Reshet Ramah is here for you! With generous grants from the AVI CHAI Foundation and the Maimonides Fund, Reshet Ramah was created to better serve the needs of our alumni community—whatever those needs may be. It is our hope that Ramah does not only hold a special place in your past, but a place in your present and future. Partner with us in making your Ramah dreams a reality.

We are in Israel with the first of two delegations of 2025 Ramah staff members to meet shlichim, to learn at the Shalom Hartman Institute, and to volunteer.

After two full days of volunteering in a strawberry field and a vineyard, we spent this morning in Nir Galim with a global group helping to prepare over 4000 schnitzel sandwiches for IDF soldiers to enjoy over Shabbat. This food packing was dedicated to the memory of Master Sgt. Itay Moreno, who fell defending Israel in the days after October 7th. His father addressed us, telling his son’s story of heroism and sacrifice. When he finished sharing, we joined him in singing HaTikvah.

We are entering Shabbat ready for some rest after early mornings of service. And with hopes for a true Shabbat of peace.

A group of 14 young adults, 12 of whom were Ramah alumni, recently spent a week in Poland on Ha’dor Yizkor: A Reshet Ramah Poland Journey. During our week together, we honored the vibrancy of Jewish life that once existed in the country, bore witness to the unfathomable atrocities of the Shoah, grappled with complex questions about Poland’s modern Jewish community, and celebrated our Jewish identities proudly and joyfully through prayer, song, and dance.

This spring, National Ramah held two versions of our annual Winer Leadership Institute for Rashei Edot—one between our two May mission trips in Israel and one at Camp Ramah New England. Over the two conferences, 34 rashei edot from 11 Ramah camps gathered to learn, share best practices, and collaborate on ideas in preparation for their roles in kayitz 2024. Participants discovered the many hats they will wear, discussed Israel education this summer, bonded while listening to each other’s Ramah stories, and promised to hold each other accountable for practicing self care throughout the kayitz.

We are so excited to see what is in store for these incredible rashei edot and to hear about the impact Winer has on their experiences!

As Israel faces perhaps her greatest challenge in 75 years, I am proud of our community’s response and Ramah’s deep and enduring commitment to Am Yisrael. We stand together during these dark days and will be there when the sun rises again.
