While the majority of Anglicans now reside in the Global South, the perspectives of women leaders are too often left out of the broader discourse. However, these women play important roles in congregational life, mission, and social change.

If you are looking for opportunities to reflect deeply on faith, justice, and community leadership—no formal theological background or seminary enrollment required—we invite you to join our upcoming course, Anglican Women’s Voices from the Global South.

Designed for students seeking to strengthen solidarity across racial, national, cultural, and geographical differences in an increasingly polycentric Anglican Communion, this course introduces the theology and leadership of Anglican women in the Global South, their struggle for gender equity in the church and society, and their leadership in bringing about a more just society.

Led by EDS Distinguished Scholar, Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, students will also learn directly from emerging leaders from EDS's 2025–2026 fellows program from Ghana, Brazil, Jamaica, and the Philippines.

In 1979, Alice Walker coined the term womanist.

Black women religious scholars subsequently adopted the term to name theological and ethical frameworks emerging from the lived experiences, histories, and struggles of Black women.

EDS invites you to explore womanist thought as an ongoing conversation in our upcoming course, "Readings in Womanist Theology," taught by the Rev. Canon Kelly Brown Douglas, PhD— our former Dean and 2026-8 Distinguished Scholar, and visiting professor of Theology at Harvard Divinity School.

Together, learners will ask:

Have you ever wondered why we usually picture biblical figures through just one cultural lens? As if history only has a single narrator?

Perhaps you've heard language around “decolonizing” how we read and interpret the Bible, but what does it mean?

According to New Testament biblical scholar and advisor to USPG and Anglican Alliance, Dr. Paulo Ueti, it simply means opening our eyes and minds to the rich, diverse perspectives that have often been left out. Instead of looking at ancient texts through only one dominant tradition, we learn to read them alongside the experiences of Indigenous communities, Black communities, local cultures, and people struggling for justice and dignity today.

This October, join Dr. Paulo Ueti for his virtual EDS course: "Contextual Bible Studies: Decolonizing Biblical Hermeneutics." In this course, the Bible becomes a living text. Students will learn to question imperial structures, uncover silenced voices, and view the text from the perspective of the colonized rather than the colonizer.

This course equips community leaders, pastoral agents, theology students, and Bible study group facilitators to transition from passively receiving scripture to actively engaging with it.

The National Day of Remembrance | 📅 September 30

Tomorrow is the National Day of Remembrance or - a day to honor Indigenous children who survived residential boarding schools and remember those who never returned home.

It is a day to tell the truth about this history and how it continues to impact Native communities today.

As we listen to survivors and those who carry their memories, we also must examine our history. Many of these schools were supported and run by Christian denominations and churches. Christians have a responsibility to engage in the work of truth-telling and to know and understand how this history continues to impact Native communities today.

Join the Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery, EDS, and the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona to learn how churches are working towards truth telling and repair, and how you can join in this work.
