Protecting Civilian Lives Must Come Before Political and Military Interests.
The Center for Environmental and Social Development (CESD) calls on the governments of Syria and Jordan to prevent further escalation, protect civilian lives, and ensure transparency and accountability following the recent violence in Karak and the Jordanian airstrikes in southern Syria.
We strongly condemn attacks against civilians and places of worship, regardless of where they occur or who is responsible.
We urge both governments to disclose the legal frameworks governing their security cooperation, support an independent investigation into civilian casualties, and uphold their obligations under international law.
Security cannot come at the expense of human rights. Peace requires truth, transparency, and accountability.
