In 2016, Congress passed PROMESA, creating a Fiscal Control Board with broad authority over Puerto Rico’s finances. The “promise” was a fair path out of the island’s fiscal crisis. Ten years later, they continue to break that promise every day.

Is the American Dream alive? A question that all of us have to grapple with. When every paycheck disappears before the month is over, when our tax dollars are used to fund wars and government corruption, when ICE terrorizes our communities day in and day out, it is hard to imagine there ever was an American Dream.

Yet, despite impossible odds, thousands of us are relentlessly organizing to resist authoritarianism in every corner of our country. At the People’s Convention last month, we witnessed and celebrated the power we're building together. The concept of the American Dream may be a facade, but we won't ever stop fighting for our right to belong.

This is what solidarity looks like. The People’s Convention was a week of celebration, remembrance and resistance. 48 affiliate organizations, more than a thousand leaders and community members all across the country came under one roof to strengthen our efforts and strategies to resist the current authoritarian regime. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. The work continues. We will not rest until freedom rings.

The rally and concert was a night to remember! From a surprise appearance by Congresswoman Analilia Mejia to powerful performances by dead prez , Maimouna Youssef , and Flor de Toloache , leaders and organizers from across the country came together to celebrate our movement, mourn the lives taken by ICE and state violence, and recommit to the work ahead.

It was a reminder that when we come together, we build the power to take on the biggest challenges facing our communities.

"Liberty has to be contested for every single day." And that's exactly what we'll keep doing
