June 19, 1865, over 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, which officially enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and liberated the remaining 250,000 enslaved African Americans in the state. Celebrate the Semiquincentennial Thursday, May 21st at the Museum of the American Revolution with a private docent led tour of the museum, and “the crown jewel in the collection,” the actual tent used by George Washington as his headquarters during the American Revolution. Members and Guests, join us at the Museum of the American Revolution with the St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia on Thursday, May 21st at 5:30 pm. The evening will include a private docent led tour of the museum, and “the crown jewel in the collection,” the actual tent used by George Washington as his headquarters during the American Revolution.⁠
