🍹Crack a cold one with us and celebrate CultureHub, our community of artists and the start of summer. This Wednesday in our studio, we’re hosting a pool party themed fundraiser from 6-8pm (with no actual pool, but festive attire is encouraged.)

🛟 We’re raising funds to keep CultureHub afloat. Enjoy pool side snacks, play water themed games and enter the CultureHub raffle for a chance to take home a new axolotl friend.

🐡 If you can’t come to our fundraiser, please consider making a donation!. Small donations from our community make a big difference, especially at this time of year.

🌀Using light-sensitive chemistry, Ella Barnes creates images without a camera, shaping light through shadow with sculpted materials and assembled objects. Come see Abyss Embrace (2023) in person at the CultureHub Pool Party.

🔦Spotlighting CultureHub joint residency opportunity with La MaMa Umbria in Spoleto, Italy.

The joint residency of CultureHub and La MaMa Umbria seeks artists whose work engages data in relationship to narrative and performance. This residency is a creative research residency that proposes the use of data, including economic, social, and political data, as inputs for creative processes and/or performative systems. Leveraging the resources of La MaMa Umbria and Cantiere Oberan’s space, artists can propose projects that engage creative coding, machine learning systems, public records, multimedia performance, and more.

The CultureHub x La MaMa Umbria residency will begin at La MaMa Umbria September 16-30, 2026. The resident will be accommodated at La MaMa Umbria, a historic villa, and will live amongst culturally diverse artists who are all working on productions or participating in workshops. Immersed in the creative, natural, and regenerative environment of Umbria, the selected artist will have time and space both at La MaMa Umbria (non technical studio and outdoor spaces available) and Cantiere Oberdan (a theater space equipped with basic lighting, sound, and video systems). The artist will be supported by multimedia artist and technician Marcello Cualbu, who will support the artist’s process technically. The residency will conclude in New York where the artist will receive one week of studio access with full technical support at CultureHub New York. While the residency does not have to culminate in a completed work, the artist is welcome to present in-progress or creative research in NYC at the completion of their residency.

🔦Spotlighting CultureHub joint residency opportunity with Société des arts technologiques (SAT) in Montréal.

The joint residency of CultureHub and SAT seeks artists who are experimenting with telepresence and interactive installation. The resident will have full access to SAT Suite, an open-source toolbox for telepresence, spatial audio, pose detection, crowd tracking, show control, AI visual generation, and more. Competitive projects will propose experiences that connect the two remote spaces in real-time and create opportunities for audiences in both cities to interact through a custom built interface. While the residency does not have to culminate in a completed work, we are looking for projects or research practices that have a strong conceptual and technological framework and meaningfully consider the distributed, multi-locational nature of this residency.

The CultureHub x SAT Residency will support one New York based artist in residence at CultureHub New York and at SAT, Montreal in fall 2026. At both locations, the artist will receive one week of studio access, technical and research support, and the full SAT suite, to target specific areas of their project’s development. The artist will also have the opportunity to share their work with the communities at CultureHub and SAT.

📝 Apply to be a CultureHub x SAT Resident Artist by May 20th

🔦Spotlighting CultureHub’s joint residency opportunity with DOCKdigital Berlin.

The joint residency of CultureHub and DOCKdigital seeks artists whose work aims to expose the spatial politics and infrastructures behind embodied AI systems. This residency is a creative research residency that proposes a shared field where bodies and computation negotiate new grammars of movement and space.

Leveraging the resources of DOCKdigital’s space, residents can propose projects that engage volumetric capture, depth sensing, floor mapping and wearable sensors, as well as real-time systems for the analysis, prediction, and transmission of movement.

The CultureHub Residency program will offer a one-week residency to a New York based artist at CultureHub in New York in fall 2026, and at DOCKdigital Berlin in early winter (January/February) 2027. At both locations, the artist will receive one week of studio access with full technical support at CultureHub New York, and in Berlin, additional dramaturgical and research support, to target specific areas of their project’s development and share it with the communities at CultureHub and DOCKdigital. The residency does not have to culminate in a completed work.

🔦Spotlighting the CultureHub Residency Opportunity for Los Angeles based Artists:

These residencies are designed to support artists as they get new work on its feet and in front of an audience. We support artists who critically examine technology from a diverse array of mediums and creative perspectives.

Preference will be given to proposals that (1) have a clear vision for how to use our physical space and resources and (2) demonstrate solid artistic practices and the use of technology as a tool to explore and reveal the creative crux of the work.

Themes of particular interest: ecological responsibility, tech ethics, integration of old+new tech, localized networks, human connection, and sustainability.

Resident Artists will have access to the following support and opportunities:

🔵 Access to the CultureHub Los Angeles studio, equipment, and technical support for 1-2 weeks in residence.
🟦 One public offering to the CultureHub community during their residency.
🔵 A $2000 stipend for the development of their project
🟦 Marketing support through our website, email newsletters, and social media.
🔵 Assistance with photo and video documentation of the project.

✨Announcing the 2026-2027 CultureHub Residency Open Call!

We are seeking artists developing work that is both critically and imaginatively informed by technology. Residencies are open to artists living and working in Los Angeles, CA and New York, NY.

☀️CultureHub Los Angeles will continue to expand our local residency program and offer residents time to target specific areas of their project’s development. Three residents will receive one-two weeks of time, space, technical support, and presentation opportunities in the LA studio.

🗽In New York, the residency program is evolving. CultureHub New York is initiating joint international residencies with three partner locations. What happens when we are not listened to, when otherness is perceived as a threat and not as an opportunity?

Join us at CultureHub Friday April 24th for a free screening and New York premiere of [ÒDIO] a new documentary film by Italian theater group MOTUS. ()

The film, made with young people from different countries and cultural backgrounds, is inspired by Shelley’s Frankenstein.
The work explores the dissonance and alienation youth experience when they are excluded from society simply because they are “different”

With this work, and the parallel theatrical performance, MOTUS delves into these dark territories, trying to put a finger on the wound to trace back to the origin of certain aggressive and excluding dynamics, by listening to the inner paths that generate them.
