Meet our newest New York City Fellows Ramona Jingru Wang () and Roshni Khatri ()!

Throughout this spring, Roshni and Ramona will be splitting their time supporting Magnum Foundation’s programming and pursuing their New York City based-projects.

Supported by Working Assumptions (), Ramona’s project, “We Carry Each Other Home,” explores how care functions within intergenerational Cantonese immigrant families in New York City, both as a personal or emotional act, and as a structure shaped by migration, labor, and access to resources. On receiving the fellowship, Ramona shared: “Receiving this grant is incredibly meaningful to me. The project I’m proposing is very personal both in terms of my background and the community it focuses on, so having the support to develop it in a thoughtful, sustained way means a lot.”

Roshni’s project “Punjab Avenue, New York” centers on intergenerational Sikh life in Richmond Hill, Queens. “I’m excited to work alongside and learn from the team at Magnum Foundation, and to gain hands-on experience through the program,” said Roshni. “Being part of a space that encourages engaged documentary practice feels deeply meaningful at this stage in my work.”

This year, as part of a new partnership with Working Assumptions, Magnum Foundation expanded the Spring Fellowship from one to two fellows, to support an additional photographer whose work focuses on themes of care, family, and interdependent relationships in communities.

The fellowship is made possible with the support of the Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation (), Select Equity Group Foundation, and Working Assumptions ().

Last chance to apply to Counter Histories: Puerto Rico!

Magnum Foundation is calling for proposals for photographic projects that engage with archives and collective memory of Puerto Rico and its diaspora.

Since 2018, Magnum Foundation’s Counter Histories initiative has supported artists who elevate suppressed histories, reframe dominant narratives, and challenge the power structures embedded in archives. This year, with the generous support of the Mellon Foundation (), Magnum Foundation is partnering with the Instituto de Observación Colectiva () and past Counter Histories Fellow Christopher Gregory-Rivera () to launch a new edition of the program focused on Puerto Rico and its diaspora.

At a time when public memory in Puerto Rico is threatened by systemic disinvestment and cultural erasure, artists have taken a leading role in countering this silencing. Counter Histories: Puerto Rico seeks to strengthen the role photography can play in building a collective visual archive for the present and future.

Opening tomorrow at Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo ():

“Building Dignified Worlds” brings together five photographers and grassroots organizations to document approaches to housing and property which reject privatization and gentrification, bringing to light the many ways communities across Latin America are building dignified alternatives. The exhibition is a record of collective strength and an open invitation: to learn from these initiatives and to imagine futures where solidarity, dignity, and justice guide how we inhabit the places we call home.

This initiative was developed by the Magnum Foundation, F**A (), and the DESIS Lab at The New School ().

📣 Open Call Alert!

We’re accepting applications for the Spring 2026 session of the New York City Fellowship, a program offering a project production grant, mentorship, and arts administration experience to NYC-based early-career photographers and photojournalists.

This year, as part of a new partnership with Working Assumptions (), Magnum Foundation will be expanding the Spring Fellowship from one to two fellows. This second fellowship will be awarded to a photographer whose work focuses on themes of care, family, and interdependent relationships in communities.

Recognizing the challenges of making a living as a working photographer, this fellowship serves a unique dual purpose: supporting the development of the fellows’ photographic projects, while also providing them with paid work experience in Magnum Foundation’s office.

This fellowship is designed for early-career photographers looking for an opportunity to deepen, expand, and complete a New York City-based project. We encourage applications from people who have at least one completed long-term project, including recent graduates and self-taught photographers. This program is open to photographers of all ages.

Fellowship details:
🗓 12 weeks from late March to early June (exact start dates and finish dates will be agreed upon with the selected fellows)
📸 $5,000 production grant
💲 An additional $25/hr for the two days a week spent in-office on arts administration work
