🚨SOS CHOCO: Earthquake Relief🚨

​Join us alongside a collective of Afro-descendant organizations coming together to rebuild and support Afro-Colombian communities severely impacted by recent earthquakes in Chocó, Cali, and Buenaventura.
​100% of fundraising efforts will go directly to La Casa Chontaduro, a local Afro-Colombian organization in Cali leading on-the-ground aid distribution to affected families.

We are deeply shocked and heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dr. Johanna Fernández. Losing such an incredible, brilliant scholar is a profound loss for our movement.

Dr. Fernández was fiercely committed to Black liberation and radical thought. Whether through her radio programs, lectures, writings, or panel contributions, she consistently centered popular education, reminding us of the vital importance of passing down radical history to all people, ensuring that the struggle for liberation reached all Black people, including Afro-Latinx communities.

As an Afro-Latina scholar, she embodied the very best of our movement. May she rest in power in the ancestral realm. May we honor her legacy by continuing to root our pedagogy, education, and organizing in Black liberation and radicalism the way she did.

Christodora, (https://www.christodora.org/) is an organization that has been serving young people for over 100 years. Christodora has overnight summer camp opportunities to Hispanic and immigrant communities in NYC.

There are have spots available for our Manice Education Center summer camp. The camp includes transportation, meals, lodging, and outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, camping, leadership development, and nature-based learning.
The program is free/pay-what-you-can. Families pay what they are able to, and we do not require a Social Security number or proof of income. The only requirement is that students live in NYC.

Current sessions available:
Session 1: June 29 – July 6 | Grades 6–7
Session 2: July 9 – July 22 | Grades 7–8
Session 3: July 27 – August 13 | Grades 8–9

Today, we celebrate the birthday of our founder, Miriam Jiménez Román. She left us with an abundance of wisdom, and today we’re sharing a powerful quote from her:

"So many of us that grew up in that time were attracted by the civil rights movement and Black Power, by Malcolm and all of this stuff—is because it gave us a language... It gave us a history. It gave us an understanding that it wasn’t an individual thing but it was a systemic problem. And that made it much easier for me to breathe. It really was like being able to breathe..."
