Last week, in partnership with UNICEF Kenya, Huru joined students at Ngunyumu Comprehensive School in Nairobi for health club sessions focused on menstrual health, hygiene, adolescence, and peer support.

Do girls really use reusable pads? 🦋

Yes, and the education makes all the difference.

Most girls haven’t used reusable pads before. Huru teaches them how to use, wash, dry, and store their pads properly, so they can care for them safely and confidently month after month.

When pads are kept clean and sanitary, girls can feel more comfortable and reduce the risk of infection. Once they understand the routine, reusable pads become a healthy, simple, and dependable solution they can trust every cycle.

Margret is 14 years old. At home, she helps care for her younger siblings and supports her family with daily chores. At school, she is doing her best to keep learning.

But when her period comes and she does not have pads, school becomes harder.

“When I miss school, I tell my classmates I am sick. Lying makes me sad.”

Before receiving her Huru Kit, Margret sometimes had to use towels during her period. Now, she has reusable sanitary pads, soap, underwear, and menstrual health education to manage her period safely.

“I feel helped today. It is not like any other day. I am so happy getting pads. Bye-bye to the towels.”
