Have you ever wondered how a group of architects manages a regatta in the middle of a very busy waterway?

We don’t.

We rely on our amazing partners at Hudson River Community Sailing, and their Director of Community Sailing, Don Rotzien, seen here with Regatta President Emeritus Dan Allen.

HRCS runs a wide range of on-the-water programs for students, veterans, sailors with disabilities, and members of the community. And when it comes to running our races safely and fairly on the Hudson, we could not ask for a more capable Principal Race Officer (PRO) than Don.

We’re very grateful to have HRCS as our partner.

Our sails are going up, and the 2026 New York Architects Regatta fundraising campaign is entering its final stretch.

Every donation helps us support community-centered organizations working in and around New York’s waterways through education, opportunity, waterfront access and environmental stewardship.

Help us carry that momentum toward race day.

This year, the New York Architects Regatta returns to the lower Hudson and New York Harbor.

There are few places to sail as spectacular as our own backyard. But the harbor is more than a remarkable setting for the Regatta. It is the place that brings our community together, and the waterfront we work together to support.

Hudson River Community Sailing embodies what the New York Architects Regatta works to support.

Beyond its outstanding youth programs, HRCS offers adult and adaptive sailing, racing, veterans programs, and free community sailing days. At its core, it builds a welcoming sailing community and helps open New York Harbor to people of all ages and abilities.

This year, HRCS is also our home on race day.

Announcing the 2026 New York Architects Regatta!

On September 24, the AEC community will gather on the Hudson for a day of racing, camaraderie, and fundraising in support of community-centered organizations working in and around New York Harbor.

Follow us over the next two weeks as the teams prepare, the fundraising builds, and we count down to race day.

September 11 brings many memories and images to mind. For the Regatta community, they are intertwined with memories of the first New York Architects Regatta, held on September 9, 2001, just two days before the attacks.

This photograph shows one crew heading out to race on New York Harbor, with the twin towers rising behind them. At the time, it was simply the familiar, iconic view of Lower Manhattan. Two days later, that view, the city, and countless lives would be changed forever.
