October 10, 2026— Cortelyou Road was filled with lots of joy, fun, smiles, and laughter as throngs of neighbors filled the thoroghfare from curb to curb in the annual Flatbush Frolic. It's one of Brooklyn's most beautiful and diverse street fairs.
The Frolic had been postponed two weeks earlier when a nor'easter blew into town. But today the weather matched the smiles and cheerful demeanor of the people who eagerly atttended the fair to check out the music, the food and the wares and offerings of vendors that lined each side of the street.
As it has done for many years, Brooklyn For Peace was there with a booth that featured its very popular Penny Poll that asks residents how they wanted their taxes to be used: for thugish violence at home against their immigrant neighbors or abroad where this country's seemingly endless wars have left millions, displaced, injured or dead.
Brooklyn For Peace also set up a Photo Booth. Hundreds of residents lined up to have their photos taken while holding signs that called for an end to the war against Iran, the genocide in Gaza, and the attacks at home, demanding that the elected officials to whom the photos would be sent, use their money to help people as opposed to waging one war after another.
It was a beautiful day. Here are the photos of Brooklyn's 'beautiful people' and their urgent pleas for peace and justice.
