Our Residential Services program enables residents to experience a high quality of life. Life Adjustment Center currently serves over 100 individuals with a wide range of disabilities in certified residences, as well as enrollment of individuals in non-certified apartments an
d houses. We offer three types of residences and support is provided based on an individualโs level of functioning and needs. Individuals are encouraged to participate in diverse scheduled activities that are designed according to the individualโs preferences, strengths and needs in order to enrich their quality of life. Currently operating are 10 Supervised Residential Homes and 2 supervised apartments. Transportation is provided to and from each program, day habilitation, medical, and community recreational activities by LAC or other cooperating agencies. Individuals enrolled in the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)
can receive the services offered through Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA). Services offered to IRA individuals are augmented by the providers selected by the individuals or their clientโs advocate. The contracting of these outside services, as well as a client assessment, are completed prior to admittance to LAC. An IRA is a type of residence that provides room and board along with individualized service options, one being Community Habilitation. Supervised IRAs provide 24-hour staff support for residents, whereas Supportive IRAs provide need-based supports and services for those who live at home and do not require 24-hour staff support and supervision. Residences are located in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan.

The objective of this program is to promote independence and community integration by teaching developmentally disabled individuals the skill sets necessary for a healthy and quality life. Life Adjustment Centerโs Community Habilitation services are offered to those who live at home and those enrolled in the IRA. Provisions in these services are given in non-certified community settings, such as at home with family members, which allow individuals to live their loved ones while helping foster an efficient atmosphere where the family can function as a unit. A service at home, as opposed to a residential setting, allows the family to be directly involved with the training being provided. Through this process family bonds are strengthened and treatment knowledge of the disability is gained.
