Last week, volunteers joined us in Cameron Parish to help plant 10,000 plugs of native marsh grass.🌱

We hopped into the marsh east of Calcasieu Lake to plant spartina alterniflora on top of small islands created by our project partners and along the marsh banks. As this native grass takes root and grows, it will help transform this degraded marsh into important wildlife habitat that will protect the area from erosion.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, as well as the Gulf of America Alliance's Gulf Star Program, Sempra Infrastructure and Team Royal, for supporting this project.

We had such a great day planting marsh grass in the Central Wetlands with so many awesome volunteers! We planted 3,500 plugs of grass, which will help restore the natural wetlands ecosystem while mitigating erosion by slowing wave action and accumulating sediment along the banks.

CRCL is a part of the Central Wetlands Reforestation Collective (CWRC), which is working to reforest the wetlands in St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes by planting native trees and marsh grass. CWRC partners: Common Ground Relief, The Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development, Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, Docville Farm and Pontchartrain Conservancy.

A huge thank you to Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, the Arlene & Joseph Meraux Foundation (Docville Farm), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Baptist Community Ministries and IMTT for supporting these plantings!
