“It’s a way of using space that otherwise is just blank. You can hang art there. But you can also hang 3,640 plants,” said Troy Whitfield, the Aquarium’s Senior Horticulturalist, as he pointed out the various ferns, spider plants, philodendron and other species via NOLA.com

Unveiled to the public in 2023, towering walls totaling more than 800 square feet are filled with more than 3,000 plants, purposefully arranged to give the feel of a wild habitat. It’s a fitting greeting for visitors embarking on a tour of rain forests, jungles, coral reefs and other habitats.

It’s time to shellabrate! Audubon Aquarium Rescue (AAR) recently released nine endangered sea turtles back into the Gulf in Alabama - six Kemp’s ridley sea turtles rescued from a large cold-stunning event in New England last fall, and three green sea turtles found in local oiled waters earlier this spring. 🐢

Remember: If you spot stranded or out-of-habitat marine mammals or sea turtles (live or dead), please call Audubon Aquarium Rescue at 877-942-5343.
