Join Gigi Santos for an Intro to Mindfulness for Women, a free College of Knowledge class. You’ll try a few simple practices you can bring into everyday life: breathing, a body scan, and a guided meditation. All aimed at quieting a busy mind and giving your nervous system a break.

Gigi has 20 years of practice behind her and teaches with a warm, fun, hands-on approach. No experience needed.

Hey neighbor, how are you holding up?

This year, New Cumberland has lost neighbors to su***de. Whether you knew them or not, it’s the kind of loss that touches a whole town.

On Sunday, November 1, we’re cosponsoring a screening of Su***de: The Ripple Effect with Mayor Joan. It follows Kevin Hines, who survived a su***de attempt at 19 and has spent the years since helping people find hope and stay alive. The film is about how one person’s life ripples out to everyone around them.

That idea stuck with us. When people know each other, check on each other, and have somewhere to show up, fewer of us end up carrying hard things alone. This screening is one small chance to do that together.

A panel discussion will follow with individuals who will share their experience and expertise. We’ll have representatives from the County Su***de Prevention (PULSE), the Veterans Administration, the faith-based community, mental health and emergency services and a survivor of su***de.

Feel that chill in the air? Must mean we’re a month out from this year’s Merry Merchants ❄️

This year will be a little different - instead of using the old PNC parking lot, we’ll be shutting down the street at 3rd & Market Streets for a good ol block party.

That means we more space for more vendors, dogs to smooch, food trucks and live music, diy pomanders, holiday culture corner and everything you need to get into a festive mood.

We’ll also be helping Bethesda Mission collect select holiday meal items for those in need.

Plus, 8 brick & mortar businesses in downtown New Cumberland will be running specials all day long, so pop in for a sweet deal and support local.

If you’ve ever asked, “How do I meet people or make friends in this town?” we’ve got just the thing. Coffee With Friends is a simple monthly social space to help make it easier.

Imagine walking into a coffee shop where everyone there wants to meet you. It’s kinda like that.

We create a space with coffee and tea, plus folks are welcome to chat over games, puzzles, zine making, crafts—or anything that gives you something to focus on while you get to know the people around you.

Introverts welcome. First-timers welcome. Everyone welcome.

Did you know we have a Nature Club that gets together a few times each month? We organize garden tours, hikes, field trips and more.

Last night we did a little tour of Nancy’s garden on 6th Street in New Cumberland and she made this awesome zine to share all the plants and animals that call her garden home. It’s beautiful! If you missed it, feel free to walk by and marvel at what she has built.

Want to try your hand at cross-stitching? Have you done it before but want to meet other stitchers? Come to our free October skill-share led by Colleen Scott.

Colleen lives in Mechanicsburg and learned cross-stitching as a way to connect with her grandmother, who is horrified that she gifts most of her finished pieces instead of keeping them.

Participants will learn how to thread a needle, master their first “X”, read a counted cross-stitch pattern, and come away with a finished 6”x6” nature-themed piece!

Materials and patterns provided; beginners welcome.

The COLLEGE OF KNOWLEDGE is a FREE knowledge sharing initiative covering a wide range of subjects and ideas for the curious at heart. Instructors are just people in the community who want to share their knowledge.
