Please welcome Lisa James, our new Chief Development Officer! 🎉

Lisa brings 30+ years of fundraising leadership to Baker Senior Center Naples. She joins us from Colorado, where she led philanthropy for a health center serving 70,000 patients a year and headed the Pikes Peak State College Foundation. Her career also spans the San Jose Museum of Art, the Arthritis Foundation and San Francisco Opera.

Here, Lisa will build a culture of philanthropy that lasts, rooted in impact and community partnership, so we can keep meeting the growing need for senior services across Collier and southern Lee counties.

✨ Staff Spotlight – Tatiana Harris! 🌟

Tatiana Harris joined the Baker Senior Center Naples Team three years ago as a Case Manager and is currently pursuing her master's degree in social work at Florida Gulf Coast University. In her role, she assists at risk and homeless senior women by identifying their needs and connecting them with resources. While housing is often her main priority, Tatiana also works to address other barriers to stability including transportation, social isolation, mental health, and medical needs.

Tatiana often meets clients during times of crisis and uncertainty. One experience that has stayed with her involved helping an older woman experiencing housing instability. Over time, this client continued to gain knowledge about resources available in the community. As Tatiana shares: “What was especially meaningful was seeing her share that knowledge with others who were experiencing similar challenges. Experiences like this remind me that the impact of our work can extend beyond the individual we initially serve and can create a ripple effect of support throughout the community. To be able to give someone hope during a difficult time and then see that hope turn into something they can share with others is an experience I am forever grateful for.”

We’re grateful to have Tatiana as part of the Baker Senior Center Naples team and appreciate the compassion, dedication, and hope she brings to the older adults she serves.

📸 The Art of Travel Photography at Baker Senior Center Naples! ✈️

Volunteer instructor Sally Lam led the first session of “The Art of Travel Photography,” one of three courses offered in the Fall Semester of Baker Senior Center College! Sally encouraged members to look beyond the traditional postcard and discover creative ways to capture the feeling of the places we visit to create engaging and memorable photos. The class also featured an educational video from renowned National Geographic Explorer Joel Sartore, giving our members valuable ideas to take with them on their next adventure.

🎓 Getting Ahead – Graduation Celebration! 🎓

The Case Management Team at Baker Senior Center Naples, along with Madeline LaPack and Michael Overway from the SWFL Regional Coalition to End Homelessness, came together to celebrate and honor the graduates of the Getting Ahead program.

Rooted in the Bridges Out of Poverty framework, Getting Ahead brings small groups together to openly explore the hidden rules of economic class and the systemic barriers to self-sufficiency. Rather than being treated as students, participants serve as "investigators" of their own lives, building 11 vital resources — from emotional resilience to social networks — that carry them from survival mode toward lasting stability.

Michael Overway shared his appreciation for the many community partners who participated in and supported this important program. Madeline LaPack encouraged the graduates to take what they learned and apply it as they continue moving forward on their journeys. Congratulations to all of our Getting Ahead graduates! Your dedication, courage, and commitment to creating a brighter future are truly inspiring.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the SWFL Regional Coalition to End Homelessness and our valued community partners as we work together to enhance the lives of the seniors we serve.

🎨🖌️ Baker Senior Center Naples hosts a Memory Café at Artis—Naples! 🎭🎶

Individuals living with dementia and their caregivers enjoyed a tour of the Baker Museum, expressed their creativity through hands-on art activities, and were treated to a performance by The Youth Ensemble.

First Day of Class at Baker Senior Center Naples!

The Fall Semester is officially underway at Baker Senior Center College. This week, our students kicked off the semester with a fun and hands-on Self-Care Workshop. Participants learned about the ingredients that go into creating nourishing hand & body lotion such as distilled water, oils, butters, and an emulsifier. After observing the process of how these ingredients are blended, each student was given a bottle of lotion.

A special thank you to Trisha Aldridge, Outreach Coordinator with Collier County University of Florida IFAS Extension, for sharing her knowledge and teaching our students a skill they can truly take away with them!

🌀 Emergency Readiness Summit 2026 🌀

Baker Senior Center Naples was honored to participate as a community partner in this year’s Emergency Readiness Summit, hosted by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at The Ritz-Carlton. With more than 400 attendees, the event brought together community members, organizations, and experts focused on an important mission: helping our community stay informed, prepared, and resilient.

The summit featured a keynote presentation by Lewis Merletti, former Director of the U.S. Secret Service, along with educational sessions covering how to prepare and respond before, during, and after a disaster. More than 20 organizations were also on hand to share valuable resources and information available throughout Collier County.

A big thank you to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office for bringing our community together and to everyone who helped make this important event a success!

☕🎨 Family Social at Memory Café! 🎨☕

Caregivers and individuals living with dementia came together at Baker Senior Center Naples for our Family Social, where they experienced creativity, laughter, and joy while creating this month’s project - Coffee bean art! Participants decorated their paintings with coffee beans, adding texture, creativity, and fun to their masterpieces. Moments like these remind us how important it is to create welcoming spaces where families can connect, create, and simply enjoy being together.
