We have had an exceptionally difficult month. I know that the main reason for that was my absence for a week while I was in the hospital but regardless, we are struggling enough that I am at the point where I have to consider loans. We have avoided going into debt thanks to the generosity of our amazing donors since we first opened our doors. I financed the startup of this nonprofit out of my own savings and I’ve worked very hard to keep us out of debt.
I know that things will get easier soon if we can stick it out through the rough months. We have student employees that will be hired on soon, we have a new wave of volunteers signing up recently and it’s about to be the holiday season, which is always the best time of year for us financially. Yes, we’ve been applying for grants and outside funding, we’ve been working on community events and partnering with other businesses and we are about to get some marketing/advertising help soon too but right now, we desperately need help.

We are roughly $3k short of being able to cover all expenses this month. Our breakfast crew kitties, KP and Thing 1 are also all getting their medical work completed this month so we are going to have to figure out how to pay for them too (about another $1k total). I know this is due to me being in the hospital for a week this month and I have really been trying to catch up as much as possible since getting back but I’ve had a lot of other stuff happen in my personal life since I got back. Life is just not my friend this month and we’ve been struggling.

I’m officially back from the hospital and I’m so happy to see all the kitties again! Miss Clementine had A LOT to say about me being gone for so long but she and Alex both accepted my offering of crunchy treats to start making it up to them. My own cats have not left my side since the moment I got home so it’s safe to say they’re also happy I’ve returned. I truly appreciate all the well wishes, comments and DMs from the last few days ❤️ I’m not going to lie, the response has been so overwhelming (in the best way possible) so please don’t be offended if you reached out and don’t hear back from me. Just know that you are one of hundreds and I truly appreciate each and every one of you who took the time to reach out. It means so very much to me that you’re all here for me during this time.
Since I have been out for so long and we had to close the rescue during my absence, we are definitely running low on funds this month so Id also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has donated while I was gone. It has helped more than you know ❤️

I’m still at the rehab facility (we only get an hour of phone time each day so I probably won’t be able to respond to everyone) but know that I do see all the comments, texts and messages and I really appreciate each and every one of them. I talked to the dr on site here earlier this evening and they agree that I seem to be doing much better now so we’re working on getting me discharged over the weekend. Until then, my amazing team is still taking care of all the kitties and I couldn’t love and appreciate them more ❤️

Soooo I guess you could call me a bit of a rebel 😎
But don’t worry, I live, bi***es!
I want to be super upfront about all this in case it helps someone else who is struggling currently. About 48hrs ago and then again about 40hrs ago I made two separate attempts to go down the sewer slide (censoring for Instagram). I will not go into how I made these attempts but after the second one, I called an ambulance, told them what I’d done and why I’d done it and they took me to the ER. I haven’t been allowed to have my phone or basically anything but a blank and empty room for the last two days. My amazing team who I love so incredibly much has stepped up they took over while I’m in recovery.
Please be patient with them as this was a very sudden change for all of us and they are truly doing amazing to pick up the slack for me.
Lastly, I want to say that if you are in a similar situation and you are also finding yourself with the same kind of thoughts I’d been having, I hope you know that someone out there loves you. *I* love you and there are people who will miss you and mourn you when you’re gone. Please stay here for those who love you❤️ All of us here at Paws and Pumpkins Reacue love you and your furry friends very much 💜
