Roar! It's always a great day to be a Lion! On Monday, September 28, the Central Lions had the pleasure of four special guests and two presentations at our evening meeting!
Our guests and speakers were Jordan Perez, Executive Director of the Luckiamute Watershed Council, Karen Norton, District Governor Lions District 36-R, and two members from the Silverton Lions Club - Dagmar Massaglia, President and Past District Governor, and John Debo, Zone Chair.
Central Lions is a continuing sponsor of the LWC. The donation presented to Jordan will help cover the costs of the complimentary appetizer buffet offered to the watershed community at the upcoming Sips 'n' Science event on Thursday, October 14. The event is free (donations are welcomed, of course) and reservations can be made online at the LWC website. These events are incredibly informative, and we hope to see it packed!
District Governor Karen Norton did an overview and 30-minute intensive training about Lions clubs - from Melvin Jones founding the Lions in 1917; accepting the challenge from Helen Keller in 1925, when she attended the Lions Clubs International Convention and challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness"; the founding of OLSHF.org in 1959, and continuing through today as the largest service organization in the world. Karen handed out the Organizational Chart for Lions Club International, a list of Lions Club International Acronyms, a sample member survey and New Member Orientation Curriculum sheets.
