Memorial Day-was originally created as Decoration Day, a day of national remembrance following the civil war. This special observation is celebrated by decorating the graves with flowers and flags. It's been 161 years since the earliest Memorial Day in Charleston, South Carolina, May of 1865. For many, Memorial Day is a 3 day weekend marking the start of summer, but for Troop 213 it is a busy weekend honoring those who have served.

Friday Evening @ Forest View Cemetery: Troop 213 collaborated with Troop 2060, Cub Scout Pack 213, the Girl Scouts from Banks, and members of the Forest Grove American Legion, to plant the American Flag at every identified Veteran's grave to honor them.

The scouts also enjoyed a tasty BBQ and camaraderie.

Saturday Morning @ Mt. View Cemetery: Troop 213 spent the morning planting the American Flag to honor the veterans laid to rest there.

The scouts celebrated the beautiful view of many waving flags in the breeze, with a sweet donut treat when the flag planting was completed.

Monday-Memorial Day: The observance this year started with a fly over of two F15's at 10:15 am. Followed by scouts from Troop 213, Troop 2026, and members of the American Legion, in the presentation of the colors for the service. The ceremony of placing a wreath of flowers at the monument for VFW, AL, and GAR was followed by a 21 gun salute and taps.
