I appreciate all who make this Annual Community Awards possible. I’m grateful for being nominated.
I’m pleased that my parents decided 62 yrs ago to migrate from Texas and settled here in the Independence-Monmouth Communities.
Ever since I was young, my passion has always been uniting with people and engaging with active committees regarding services to the community.
I’ve learned so much by participating along with a variety of community leaders and their fine examples. During this time, I concentrated on personal development and motivated others to join volunteer work and educational programs.
To date, I have volunteered in creating a children’s Folklorico Dance Group, worked 20 years at St. Patrick Church as Secretary/Social Services Ministry, Polk County Human Services, Health Department, and Oregon State University 4-H youth Program created a 35 Youth Performing Guitar Club and several other children’s 4-H fair projects and activities.
My volunteer achievement has been organizing an existing “Community Fiesta” for 43 years, promoting community integration and bridging of diverse cultures. This Fiesta is a unique family- friendly event, held at the Riverview park. Every year new talents are introduced through a variety of community talents, dances, motivational speakers, musical group performances, artists, food and information booths, Fiesta princesses, queens, and introduction of new cultural ideas and entertainment activities. This fiesta was made possible with the help of current & former volunteers. We did it together!
Your vote for me will count as a vote for all of us. Thank you.Sincerely, Elena
