I must say chi Miigwech to my brother Karthik.
I met Karthik at a southside homeless encampment in the summer of 2021 and we’ve been brothers ever since.
When I told him about my health scare and the emergency surgery I had, and my upcoming heart surgery he gathered up his friends and colleagues from the art world to hold an online auction to help me out.

No words can truly express my gratitude for everything he and everyone else has done for me.
Many many Miigwechs to everyone who contributed or sent prayers to me and my family.

I’m overwhelmed with love and sincere gratitude…

Mike Forcia (Bad River Anishinaabe) is an American Indian Movement activist who has been working tirelessly on the streets of Minneapolis to end Indigenous homelessness for over 20 years. In July, Mike was admitted to the hospital with a severe blood infection. While resolving the infection, doctors discovered an aortic aneurysm which needs to be repaired as soon as possible. Mike is currently without health insurance and his medical bills are mounting.

Since 2021, artist Karthik Pandian has been working closely with Mike on performances, exhibitions, and films, several of which have been presented by Midway Contemporary Art in Minneapolis. Karthik and Midway have reached out to a number of artists who have generously donated works to try and help Mike pay off the tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills he has already received so he can move forward and get the care he needs to survive his heart condition.

In addition to artworks for sale, there are donation buttons at the bottom of the page which can be used to contribute cash. All proceeds from the sale and donations will go directly to Mike Forcia to pay off his medical bills.

Below, in a photograph taken by Karthik, Mike is pictured at his land on the Bad River Reservation, where he hopes to move one day. Your generosity will help him see that day and many more to come.

Mike Forcia, a Bad River Anishinaabe activist, also insisted on the necessity of the park’s closure to off-leash dogs. He referenced the traumatic history of the land’s colonization by European settlers and insisted that there was no other way but to follow through with the resolution. He then addressed the white audience of the Board’s meeting, telling them they should not have a say in the decision.

“We all know what’s going to happen. This park is going to be closed,” Forcia said. “It’s going to happen, I just don’t know why it’s not closed today. You already know the harms that it’s been doing, you’ve already been told what’s been going on … Imagine that area before the white man, before the pilgrims, pioneers and settlers, the extreme white Christian terrorists, who showed up on this land, imagine what the Dakota were going through …You guys have no say in this whatsoever.”

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board voted Wednesday to close the Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog park despite a last-minute petition by dog owners to delay the decision.

There are some on the Bad River tribal council in bed with Enbridge and don’t give a damn about our Manoomin, the Bad River or the watershed!!
They want the MONEY!!!

We have reason to believe they want to REMOVE our chairman, Liz Arbuckle and make a back room deal with Enbridge!!
