The circle of community is only complete when all of us are welcome to the table. NACDI is proud to support and create welcoming spaces for our Two Spirit, Indigiqueer, and Native LGBTQ community members. Many of our staff are out and proud, and work every day to make our community a stronger and safer place for all.

We’re continuing our series of uplifting voices from our staff and community members who supported our front-line observers.

Angela Two Stars (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate), the Director of All My Relations and Vice President of Arts and Culture for NACDI reflected on what it meant to return programming in the All My Relations Gallery. “Danielle created a new piece for the exhibit, Be a Good Relative, a neon sign that lights up the space. This motto is a value that I live by everyday and how we operate the AMRA gallery. Being a good relative meant providing a safe space when our neighbors needed supplies and a place to gather.”

All My Relations Arts is excited be one of the pop-up viewing venues for Hennepin County Library's author talk with Robin Wall Kimmerer on Wednesday, May 13th.

Join your neighbors to watch the live stream of the author talk and have a discussion of the library's 2026 season selection, “The Serviceberry." While Indigenous scientist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer harvests serviceberries alongside the birds, she considers the ethic of reciprocity that lies at the heart of the gift economy and how we can learn from Indigenous wisdom and the plant world to reimagine what we value most.

At All My Relations Gallery, 1414 E. Franklin Ave. 6-8pm; free and open to the public. Copies of the book can be reserved; eBooks and eAudiobooks are available through www.hclib.org.

Sponsor: Friends of the Hennepin County Library and The Mary Ann Key Book Club, which uses reading as a catalyst for intercultural conversations around understanding and addressing past and current injustices that impact Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

We were blessed with such a beautiful day on Friday for the NACDI and Pow Wow Grounds Open House! ☀️🌻 Celebrating American Indian Month in May is a great opportunity to catch up with the great work the community is doing.

We loved connecting with colleagues and friends, letting folks about the awesome programming we have happening and coming up, and having lunch together.

Chi miigwech, wopida tanka, and pinagigi to the Four Sisters Farmers Market vendors who provided a sneak preview of the market season, Crow Bellecourt for opening us up in a good way with a prayer and an honor song, and DJ North Star for some great tunes. Much gratitude to members of Many Shields and the Make Voting a Tradition specialists for helping with the many hands needed to keep the event running, and Pow Wow Grounds for the delicious food.

Thank you to Robert for ten years of leadership at NACDI, an anniversary we were excited to celebrate at the event.

And thank you to all who came out to enjoy the day with us!

May 5 also serves as a call to action at the national level, for intervention at both the state and federal level to the epidemic of our Missing & Murdered Relatives.
