Waite House

Waite House Community Center located in the heart of the East Phillips Neighborhood.

Waite House was established in 1958 in Minneapolis’ Phillips Community and in 2012 moved into a larger space in a former park district building on 11th Avenue and 23rd Street. Each year, more than 4,500 Phillips Community members build social and economic capital via programs administered by 17 diverse staff and 120 volunteers, including 4 AmeriCorps members and students from six local colleges. W

aite House programs focus on four core areas: Employment and Training, Health and Nutrition, Youth Development, and Basic Needs. As a hub of activity in the Phillips community, we promote community engagement and growth for all individuals from all ages with an active free community café that also trains youth in the culinary arts and an afterschool program focused on college access. Adults are encouraged to take advantage of career training and tax assistance, among other services. Recognizing that Phillips Community is always changing, Waite House continues to innovate with culturally relevant initiatives that build on peoples’ strengths, enhancing the community’s capacity to care for one another and address injustices that exist in low-income communities of color. Some things in life you just can't plan for.
🤒 A serious illness
🤕 An injury
🏥 a surgery

When that happens, the last thing you should have to worry about is your paycheck.

Minnesota Paid Leave is here for moments like these. If you're a Minnesota worker dealing with a serious health condition, including mental health conditions, pregnancy complications, or recovery from surgery, you may qualify for up to 12 weeks of paid time off to focus on getting better.

Paid Leave covers a portion of your wages while you're away, and your job is protected while you're gone.

Because healing takes time. And you deserve that time.

Every year, more than 100 children in Hennepin County are found to have high blood lead levels, high enough to damage their health. Lead exposure is particularly dangerous for young children and can lead to brain and nervous system damage, slowed growth and development, and learning and behavior problems.

But there's good news—lead poisoning is 100% preventable.

If you or a family member has experienced domestic abuse, sexual assault, or stalking, you shouldn't have to choose between your safety and your job.

Minnesota Paid Leave includes Safety Leave: paid, job-protected time off for Minnesota workers who need to respond to a safety crisis. That can include finding safe housing, getting medical or mental health care, working with an advocate or attorney, going to court, or making a safety plan.

Your privacy is protected throughout the process. Your employer will only know that you took Family Leave, not the reason why.

You deserve to feel safe. And you deserve support getting there.

If you need help connecting with a Safety Leave certifier or advocate, call the Minnesota Day One® crisis line: 1-866-223-1111.
