Tiwahe Foundation

Tiwahe Foundation Our Native community members lead our work through intentionally cultivated waterways, shaping Tiwahe around four central values.

“Tiwahe” means family ❤️
Wherever you go, you have a relative

More than a Native-led nonprofit—
a movement rooted in culture, connection,
and community, creating belonging 🌿✨

These values guide us daily in all our relationships, program design, decision-making, evaluation, as well as setting future-oriented strategy. Core values:

Honoring Family (Welcoming, Belonging, Resourcing and
Reconnecting)
Tiwahe is a family and acts as a good relative who supports Native
peoples in ways they can always count on. Honoring Culture and Language
The practice and sharing of culture, language, traditional knowledge,
and lifeways are Tiwahe’s identity, central to all that we do, and what
connects us through past, present, and future. Honoring Commitment
Tiwahe is very intentional about committing our current capacity and
resources to partnerships with aligned values and solidarity through
their mission. Honoring Reciprocity
Tiwahe values reciprocity as transformative and impactful in all of our
relationships. Reciprocal relationships are necessary to ensure creative
changes are sustained for our future generations. Tiwahe facilitates
opportunities to join the circle of generosity as a way to demonstrate
reciprocity in our community.

Many men carry heavy responsibilities while feeling pressure to stay silent about what they're experiencing.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's continue creating spaces where people can ask for support, speak honestly, and know they do not have to carry everything alone.

Life is better with you in it.

While life can bring hardship, loss, and uncertainty, it can also hold beauty, connection, purpose, and healing. The stories we choose to nurture and the things we give our attention to can shape how we move through difficult times. May we continue creating stories rooted in hope, relationship, and possibility.

If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Minnesota Lifeline. Trained specialists are available 24/7 to provide free, confidential mental health and emotional support. You can also connect through online chat at 988lifeline.org.

Wopida/Miigwech to Supaman for sharing this important reminder.

We’ll see you there tomorrow evening if you can make it 🙌🏽

On Memorial Day, we honor all who gave their lives in service, including Native warriors whose sacrifices are too often overlooked. Native Americans have served in the U.S. Armed Forces at the highest per-capita rate of any group.

This Memorial Day, we encourage you to support Native organizations serving Veterans and Service Members. Learn more about these organizations by visiting the Native Nonprofit List.

In the Oyate Leadership Network (OLN), learning happens in relationship with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, & each other.🌿

Past participants shared how meaningful it was to:
• Learn directly from Elders
• Engage with traditional teachings and medicines
• Reflect on how to carry those teachings forward

These teachings are paired with OLN-created tools, helping translate cultural knowledge into everyday leadership practice.
