Peace House Community

Peace House Community Peace House Community is a non-violent, welcoming and inclusive community for people experiencing homelessness and poverty in the Twin Cities.

Twenty-eight years ago, Sr. Rose Tillemans, CSJ, opened a storefront at 510 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis to give folks who feel they have nowhere to belong, A PLACE TO BELONG. Sister Rose is no longer with us, however our ministry of hospitality continues – being with women and men who are often shunned by their families and their community because of their mental illness, their debilitating addictions and endless poverty. Peace House Community is not about results or statistics or programs. It is about learning “to be with” people in their suffering and in their joy. It is a place where everyone who is drug free and with a spirit of nonviolence is welcomed, listened to and treated with respect. Each person is helped to find the dignity that the circumstances of their lives have taken away. No one is judged for his or her mistakes but for their wisdom. Volunteer and community members alike become wiser as we listen to each other. Please come to our new home at 1816 Portland Avenue, Minneapolis and join us for meditation and prayer at 11:30 AM every Monday through Friday followed by a shared community meal. The heart of our simple philosophy and mission is affirming one another through listening, praising the divinity that lives in each of us and praying for the well being of our world and ourselves.

Peace House Community is about so much more than lunch.
Yes, we serve a meal. But look around on any given day and you'll see so much more.

You might find a game of dominoes underway. Someone creating art. A volunteer sitting down for a conversation. Someone getting a little extra care. Friends laughing together. Or someone simply finding a comfortable place to spend a few hours where they know they're welcome.

The meal matters. But so do the relationships that grow around the table.

That's why this year's gala theme, A Place at the Table, means so much to us. Peace House is a place where people can come as they are—to eat, to talk, to create, to laugh, to connect and, most importantly, to belong.

When you attend our gala, you're supporting all of it.
Join us October 29 for A Place at the Table and help us continue creating a community where everyone has a seat.

🚲💙 What a day for Pedal For PHC!

Yesterday, Peace House community members, staff, volunteers, and supporters got on their bikes and rode together — and we couldn't be more grateful for everyone who made the day so special.

We were especially thrilled to have so many of our community members riding alongside us.

That's what Pedal For PHC was meant to be: not simply an event for our community, but an event we could experience together as a community.

And now we need your help with one more part of the ride.
We've raised an incredible $6,840 toward our $10,000 goal! 🎉

Many of the community members who rode with us don't have the same opportunity to reach out to friends, family, and coworkers and ask them to sponsor their ride. That's where the rest of our Peace House community can come in.

If you haven't donated yet, would you consider making a gift in honor of one of our community members who rode?

We have just $3,160 to go to reach $10,000 — and donations to Pedal For PHC are still open.

Let's finish this ride together. 💙
