Since 1970, The Bridge has served over 50,000 homeless and runaway youth in the Minneapolis area. The Bridge for Youth is a premier resource for diverse populations of youth and families needing help by offering: Support that empowers. Safe shelter. October is - a time to celebrate and reflect on key moments in q***r history. Hear more from our youth social media committee on moments of LGBTQ+ History that resonate with them:
🌈In 1973, the National LGBTQ+ Task Force was formed (then known as the National Gay Task Force). It was the first national LGBTQ+ organization in the U.S.

✊In 1977, The organization’s co-executive director, Jean O’Leary, met with the White House (specifically with Midge Costanza, President Carter’s assistant) to discuss discriminatory federal policies against the gay community. And now in

🧡2026, the chants of the Stonewall Uprising still stay true; we must support “gay power” and know that “we shall overcome.”

🏃 When it comes to supporting youth, it's a marathon, not a race...literally! We want to give a special shout-out to commUNITY member Nicholas Reily. This past weekend, he ran his first-ever marathon and used it to support The Bridge for Youth!

Leading up to his run at the TC Marathon, Nicholas called upon his community to make donations to The Bridge in honor of his run. Thanks to his efforts, he helped welcome new donors to The Bridge all while crossing the finish line!

Thanks to our commUNITY of support, we're ready for another month of outreach work 🌟

Our friends from Citizens Independent Bank came by to help us pack hygiene kits for the Mobile Youth Outreach Center. They breezed through our initial inventory, and we had to bring out more supplies to meet their pace. We have over 100 new kits to share with youth across the metro.

Thank you Citizens Independent Bank for being rock stars 🎉

Last week, youth, board, and staff leadership from The Bridge presented at the MN Coalition for the Homeless Annual Conference, sharing their practice of Decolonizing Board Leadership through Youth Voice. We are grateful for the opportunity to share with our peers how Youth Advisory Board Graduates and community board members have co-created their journey to meaningful, integrated board leadership.

"Happy Bi Visibility Day! A lot of the time, when people think of bisexuality, they instantly assume that it means that one is attracted to two genders, which can be the case, but really it means that one is attracted to at least two genders. Bisexuality is a spectrum. It doesn’t mean equal attraction to each gender; sometimes attraction can be stronger to one gender. Recognizing bisexuality is crucial in ending bi-erasure and seeing it as a valid identity within the LGBTQIA+ community!"

📣We're about ONE MONTH AWAY from The Homecoming GAYla on October 23rd! Have you signed up your youth yet?

For many LGBTQ+ youth, it can be hard to show up as your authentic self. This alternative homecoming event is a night for youth to come together in community and celebrate their unique identity in a safe space.

🏳️‍🌈Experience a free evening of dancing and drag performances with Luna Muse, interactive activities including live screen printing and a photobooth, free food, onsite gender affirming resources and more!

At The Bridge, we know youth hold the wisdom to guide solutions to ensure all youth are safe, accepted, and supported. Last night we gathered with youth, elected officials, and staff to celebrate the impact of youth voices.

In the most recent legislative session, The Bridge was awarded $1M in state funds to expand shelter and housing options for young families in Minnesota! This was made possible by youth voices who advocated at the Capitol, shared their stories with us, and spoke up about what youth experiencing homelessness need.

Thank you to Senator Scott Dibble, Representative Katie Jones, County Commissioner Marion Greene, and Representative Jessica Hanson for joining us as we celebrated this monumental win made possible by youth!

September 15th marks the start of , the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. As we celebrate Hispanic culture, stories, and resilience, we asked our Youth Social Media Committee to research impactful people. Learn more and celebrate with us 🧡
