Special Immigration Visas (SIVs) are issued to Afghan nationals who worked with the United States Government or the International Security Assistance Force/Resolute Support. For those that qualify, their SIVs open the door for emergency placement in the U.S. and permanent immigration status (Green Cards). But, the Sakhizadas were informed—despite their SIVs no resources remained to fund their travel to the US; they would have to find their own funding; something previously provided for other SIV holders. And they needed to do it before their visas expired, The Sakhizadas were luckily able to raise the funds from friends and family to make their journey to the US in March of 2025.

“We’ve been through a tough time. Right now day by day we've been adjusting.”

RHMN worked with the family to find housing, assisted them in signing a lease, and helped them pay security deposit and rent. “Without a place to live, people don’t have a home base from which they can operate; find a job, enroll their kids in school, feel a sense of community,” explains Ahmad Shah.
