Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should be alive. The ICE involved shooting in Biddeford, Maine this morning has also left someone’s loved one deceased. The persistent actions of law enforcement to use lethal weapons against people regardless of their citizenship status continues to lead to preventable, unnecessary deaths. We at Rise & Remember feel this loss deeply. We still remember George Floyd who was also killed by law enforcement. And in collaboration with our community in Minneapolis, we watch over the names of hundreds of black lives stolen by state-sanctioned violence at George Floyd Square. We know this pain too well. ICE and DHS are adding to the pain that no family should have to feel. This state violence must end. Our prayers go out to all the families, friends, and communities grieving their losses.

Say his name! Winston Smith!

On this day, five years ago, the City of Minneapolis forced the reopening of George Floyd Square seeking to end one of the most powerful demonstrations of resistance to racial injustice in our time. That same day, undercover government agents took the life of Winston Smith in Uptown, Minneapolis. Protesters stood at both sites in defense of black lives.
