As leaders, we have to embody the best human characteristics so as to motivate others to be their best. The characteristics we embody must be grounded in humility. We must recognize that we are not more important than others because we are leaders - be it subordinate level leaders or Grand Officers.

When we come to terms with this then we can meet leadership’s challenge; otherwise, we can’t.

I appreciate everyone reserving their hotel room in an organized and timely manner. The staff at the host hotel reports that you have been courteous and patient. Thank you very much for your professionalism.

The host hotel (Hyatt Regency, Minneapolis) is 100% full. The Millennium Hotel located across the street from the host hotel at 1313 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403 will serve as the overflow hotel.

We have additional rooms available at the overflow hotel which can be reserved by calling the Group Coordinator at 866-866-8086.

Inform the coordinator that you’d like to reserve a room under the ‘Grand Masters Conference’ group rate during the dates of March 21, 2019 - March 24, 2019.

The best way to get your team to have your back is to win their hearts and minds. The road to that for leaders is to ‘Serve.’

The primary role of a leader is “servant leadership.” It means the leader exists to serve those under him. In contrast, traditional leadership is a top-down pyramid where the leader sits at the top, and subordinates do as the leader commands. Servant leaders turn that pyramid upside down by sharing power with their teams, placing the needs of their team before their own, and helping subordinates develop and grow so they can perform at the highest level possible.

Peter Drucker once said, "The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't said." It's important to be able to know what's going on with the other person by reflecting back what you heard to clarify ("What I hear you saying is ... "), and ask questions to probe the other person's feelings or opinions on the topic of conversation. Probing can be as simple as "Tell me how you feel about this."
