Meet Cooper Manning👋

Cooper is a senior psychology major at Harding University who spent his summer interning with HopeWorks! He primarily worked with Next Story, where he helped lead Bible studies and counseling sessions for men recently released from prison.

Through this experience, he learned the value of being part of someone’s support system and how to love people through the hardest parts of life. He hopes to be a mental health counselor one day!

Thank you, Cooper, for being with us this summer!

It's National Savings Day! Having a savings account for emergencies is one of the best ways to create peace of mind and to protect yourself and your family from life's unexpected turns. But getting there isn't always easy, especially when essentials seem to take up a lot of your pay.

But any saving is a step in the right direction! HopeWorks is helping set our students up for a healthy financial future filled with a saving mindset in a few ways:

⭐️Vivian is a part-time staff member at HopeWorks who meets with our Personal and Career Development classes at the Shelby County Division of Corrections to help them with finances. She also meets individually with each Next Story resident to discuss budgeting.
⭐️ Southern Security Federal Credit Union is a generous partner who helps our students who don't have a traditional financial partner open accounts.

We value helping each and every one of our students walk into a new life, and we're thankful to have people who help us achieve that.

Meet Matt Carter 👋

Matt is the program coordinator for our Volunteer Mentor Initiative – a grant from the Governor's Office of Faith-based Initiatives. Matt recruits men who mentor incarcerated adults preparing to reenter society.

Over the years, Matt has grown in his ability to be hands-on, equip volunteers to serve and be a voice for HopeWorks' mission in the community.

His favorite things to do in Memphis are walking the Greenline with his wife, Felicia, hitting up jazz concerts and going to Redbirds games!
