Founded in 2013, but born out of 41 years of the Boston Astros' culture and methodology, The BASE combines exceptional athletic training and competition with academic and career resources to put urban youth on pathways to success. The BASE as an organization shifts to change the mindset about what it takes for urban youth to succeed, and to build a movement of citizens committed to their success. We are showing the nation that Urban Talent is American Talent. The BASE serves 1,500 student-athletes ages 6-19 annually, primarily from the Boston neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. The majority of our students are Black or Brown and attend Boston Public Schools. The BASE uses sports as a passion point to connect with young people and ultimately put them on pathways to higher education and meaningful careers. We combine best-in-class sports training and competition with academic and career resources. All BASE programming and services are offered free of charge. Areas of Programming
The Sports Academy: Best-in-class, year-round baseball, softball, and basketball training and competition
The Academic & Career Institute: Academic and career resources and opportunities that empower students to graduate high school on pathways to college or career programs and sustaining employment
Youth Development: Positive youth development programming that ensures student growth in both their athletics and academics; topics include critical confidence, values, self-esteem and self-efficacy, and making positive choices. Why The BASE is Different – And Why It Works
The BASE is more than a non-profit. We are a family built on love, dedicated to the success of our young people and positive, lasting change for our urban neighborhoods. Beyond providing access and opportunity, The BASE’s distinctive high-expectations and success-driven environment creates a culture shift. Youth are motivated to believe in themselves and to work hard to achieve their goals. They bring the same passion to their education and career pursuits as they do to sports.
