Earlier this month, the Beats Rhymes and Life Beats Rhymes and Life, Boston Summer Showcase brought together weeks of creativity, collaboration, and hard work!

Leading up to the showcase, BRL participants spent weeks writing, recording, and practicing their own original songs. The youth then took the stage to perform their music for a room filled with family, friends, and community members and were recognized with certificates for completing the program.

The audience became part of the experience too with flowcabulary, a freestyle activity that got the room rhyming, rapping, and creating together.

Congratulations to all of our BRL participants on an incredible summer and a great showcase!

The YGTC is a welcoming drop-in center for young adults ages 16–26, offering access to resources, community, and opportunities for growth. In this role, you’ll provide clinical guidance to staff, support young adults during times of crisis, coordinate referrals, and help strengthen the center’s person-centered approach to care.

We’re hiring! Children’s Services of Roxbury is looking for an experienced Senior Controller to join our Finance team.

The Senior Controller will oversee CSR’s daily accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while working closely with the CFO to support the financial health of the organization. This leadership role will also manage the monthly closing process, support annual audits and regulatory filings, oversee grant and fund accounting, and supervise key members of the accounting team.

We’re looking for a finance professional with at least seven years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience, strong knowledge of GAAP and Massachusetts UFR guidelines, and experience managing financial operations within a complex organization.

Back-to-school season is right around the corner, and we’d like to thank our community partners for helping students start the year prepared.

Last week, Life Science Cares organized a backpack drive for the youth we serve, with the team at Kailera Therapeutics assembling backpacks filled with school supplies. Together, volunteers packed more than 240 backpacks for elementary and high school students in our community. We’re grateful to everyone who contributed their time and support!

Beats Rhymes & Life Youth are ready to take the stage this Thursday!

Join us on August 13 at 5 p.m. at SPOKE for an evening celebrating the creativity, talent, and hard work of BRL youth. Throughout the summer, participants have been developing their voices, expressing themselves through music, and creating original hip-hop songs. Now, they’re gearing up to share their work with us live.

Come out to hear original music, support our young artists, and celebrate another summer of creativity and connection through Beats Rhymes & Life. We hope to see you there.

Yesterday, our very own Candice Watch, Director of Beats Rhymes & Life (BRL), and Tianna Isler, Director of the You Got This Center (YGTC), were featured on WCVB Channel 5’s “5 for Good”!

Candice and Tianna joined Jessica Brown in the studio to share more about the impact of the YGTC and BRL. Together, they highlighted how the programs combine therapeutic activities, creative expression, community resources, and ongoing support to help young adults build confidence, develop meaningful connections, and feel supported.

This week our staff spotlight shines on Yesenia DeJesus, Placement and Case Manager in our Housing and Stabilization department.

Yesenia's favorite part of working at Children's Services of Roxbury is making a meaningful difference in the lives of the families we serve. She enjoys helping participants navigate complex housing systems, connecting them with resources, and supporting them as they work toward stable, permanent housing. For Yesenia, there's nothing more rewarding than seeing a family overcome barriers and move into a place they can call home.
