Meet our 2026 Project LEARN interns! 🧡 We're so grateful to welcome Elizabeth, Sureela, and Romena to the team this year.

Elizabeth, a senior at UMass Lowell, joins us as a Development Intern for the fall semester, where she's stepping outside her comfort zone to learn grant writing. Sureela, a sophomore studying Electrical Engineering, and Romena, a Biomedical Engineering student, are both with us all year through the UML Honors CityShip program. They're helping us build the skills and confidence Lowell students need to explore their futures.

Please join us in welcoming Lauren Bonich to the Project LEARN team! 🧡

With a background in forestry and environmental education, Lauren has always had a love for the outdoors, and community outreach and building partnerships have been at the heart of her work. She finds real fulfillment in connecting people, organizations, and resources to strengthen the communities they serve.

Lauren has been part of the Lowell community since 2022 and served the city through her time with Lowell National Historical Park. Along the way, she developed a deep appreciation for Lowell's history, its people, and the many organizations working to make it a vibrant place to live and learn.

Now she's beginning her next chapter with us, and she's looking forward to building new relationships, learning from students and community partners, and helping Project LEARN elevate the opportunities available to Lowell students.

We’re thrilled to welcome Shawnic Coleman, LSW, CARC, to our Project LEARN team! 🧡

A lifelong Lowell resident, Licensed Social Worker, and Certified Addiction Recovery Coach, Shawnic brings more than 12 years of experience working with youth, young adults, and families. Her career is built on creating meaningful connections, advocating for others, and helping people navigate challenges while recognizing their strengths.

Growing up in Lowell, Shawnic knows how much it matters to have supportive adults, accessible opportunities, and people who believe in you. That experience drives her commitment to giving back and creating pathways for young people to succeed.

Outside of work, she’s a proud mom who values family, community, and making a positive impact. We’re so excited for her to bring her passion and love for Lowell to supporting students and strengthening partnerships across our community.

Project LEARN’s 24 Hours of Giving is a biannual give-a-thon bringing our community together for friendly competition and big impact.

We’re aiming to raise $43,158 — $3 for every student in Lowell Public Schools. Funds raised will directly support Lowell students during the 2026–27 school year through new initiatives and expanded career-connected learning opportunities.

This year, our Board and Associate Board are splitting into two teams, Team Teal and Team Orange, and going head-to-head to see who can rally the most support. Every donation counts toward a team’s total, so every gift brings us one step closer to victory.

But the competition is all in good fun. At the end, the real winner is Lowell’s students.
