UTEC Helping young adults in Lowell, Lawrence & Haverhill break cycles of violence and poverty to build brighter futures.

UTEC was founded in 1999 by young people driven to develop their own teen center in response to gang violence. Today, UTEC’s nationally recognized model begins with intensive street outreach and gang peacemaking, reaching out to our most disconnected youth by meeting them “where they are.” Youth in our target population (16-24, out of school and gang or criminally involved, or parenting) receive u

p to three years of intensive case management. UTEC provides real-world employment experience through our social enterprises in food services, mattress recycling, and woodworking/trades. Project-based educational programming is provided through onsite HiSET (GED) preparation classes. Social justice and civic engagement are embedded throughout and drive our youth-led organizing and policymaking campaigns, both local and statewide. Ultimately, UTEC’s unique model can provide a pathway from the street to the state house for older youth most often overlooked. UTEC’s primary outcomes are: reduced criminal involvement, increased employability, and increased educational attainment. Driven by evidence-based data, the recidivism rate of UTEC-enrolled youth is less than 15%, compared with a statewide average above 60%. Learn more: https://www.utec-lowell.org/programs/overview

🏁 Some friendly competition is underway at our Lowell center 🏁

Young adults are putting their rally racing skills to the test on the driving simulator, competing for the fastest lap time on the same track using the same car through mid-June 🎮🚗

It’s been a fun way to build connection, unwind, and bring a little extra energy into the space as summer approaches

A glimpse at last week's “Violence Is Not the Answer” community response circle in Haverhill 🧡

It was powerful to see people come together to speak truth, support one another, and remind our young people that they are not alone.

These conversations matter. Healing, accountability, and safer communities start with us.

We’re grateful to everyone who showed up, shared their experiences, listened with compassion, and continues doing the work every day to build stronger, safer communities 🙏🏽

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to the incredible educators who show up every day for young adults and families at UTEC 🧡

From HiSET classes to culinary arts, woodworking, career readiness, hands-on job training, and our 2Gen early childhood education team, our teachers and educators do so much more than teach. They build trust, encourage growth, create opportunity, and help young adults and children believe in themselves and their futures.

Learning at UTEC doesn’t always look traditional, but transformation is happening every single day because of the patience, creativity, and commitment of this team.

Thank you for meeting people where they are, celebrating every step forward, and helping make brighter futures possible 🧡🙏

Help us celebrate the latest Transformational Beginnings graduation 🎓🎉

These young adults have put in the work to lay the foundation for what’s next, taking important first steps like getting their IDs, opening bank accounts, and building the stability and confidence to move forward.

This group also made history as the first to use our new kitchen space in Haverhill 🙌

Today, we’re excited to welcome them to our Lowell center as they take the next steps on their journey. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

Please help us show MADD LOVE to our Haverhill, Lawrence, and Lowell Streetworker teams! 🧡

They’ve been putting in the work- long hours, late nights, and showing up day after day to keep our communities safe.

They’re out there building relationships, planning and hosting free community events, de-escalating conflicts, and supporting young people in real time. Really, doing whatever it takes to keep the peace.

This work doesn’t always get seen, and it’s not easy, but it matters more than ever.

We’re incredibly grateful for this team and the commitment they bring to building peace, one conversation, one connection at a time.
